It happened fast but here's what I think happened. I'm a goofy surfer and was getting tired, so in case i missed the jump to the heel side I decided to keep the rope coiled in my right hand, thinking I could use it to recover if I mistimed the jump. When I made the jump, I over shot it and fell onto my right side. My hand hit the water first and the rope uncoiled then I fell onto it and it found its way to my neck. Fortunately, by the time the handle got to me it hit my shin and not my face.

Yikes! So, I guess you CAN get hurt wake surfing. Gotta get the rope out of the equation or risk being hung by it. Don't ever want to be a Darwin Award recipient.
Yup, I know of 3 people that got stiches in the head from surfing, one person that got rope wrapped around there leg and got dragged and my other half hit the back of the boat when we got cut of by a tuber and had to pull of the throttle. Needless to say I wear a helmet and a life jacket.
Happened to me last year . I was attempting shove its and had the rope . I fell backwards and the mini handle slid up my arm and caused a serious contusion on my forearm . I immediately grabbed ice and messaged it and it finally went away thank goodness

I had to give my wife stitches 2 years ago. The CEO of our hospital ended up with a fairly severe hand injury. I really worry when we are teaching newbies because they tend to wrap the rope around their hand.

Wife got a concussion a few weeks ago when she fell, and the board flew around hitting her in the head when she came up out of the water.
Wake surfing is my last option now that slalom and wakeboarding are off the table. I will stick with wakesurfing until I get injured vs the rocking chair watching others have fun behind the boat
