Boat torque direction R or L in reverse

I have a Ski Nautique 196 that torques to the left upon reversing. However our Gs22 torques to the Right. I know the ski nautique 200 torques to the Left like my 196. Is this a V-drive verses direct drive thing? What models torque which direction? Just curious but it does involve using different approaches for each boat.

It's left hand drive vs. right hand drive (the direction the prop rotates in) which will affect the reverse pull direction. Nautique has used various transmissions over the years that have changed direction. I'm sure someone else can outline the different years and models.

Historically, Nautique uses the right hand rotation to counteract driver weight in the direct drive tourney boats, and still do in the 200. For boarding/surfing, it's just as easy to tweak to ballast a little to trim out a boat, so they've since moved to the more industry standard left hand rotation for the rest of the boats. Also, where the old boats used to even have a right hand rotating engine, they use the transmission now to determine the rotation. Personally, I prefer a left hand as it makes docking worlds easier - especially in show skiing scenarios where you're docking constantly.
