I grew up in a MC family. My parents first (94 PS 205) was a tractor that we put 1600 hrs in 8 years and was extremely reliable. They now have a 00 PS 190.

We slalom ski in the course so the wake is the #1 priority for me. In college we skied behind the Nautique 196 and it is a great boat. So when it time for me to buy mine the Nautique 196 was all that I was looking for.

I wasn't interested in the MC from 95-00 as they weren't that great of wakes and the newer ones were out of the price point.

I was introduced to Nautiques working at a Christian camp. When I had the chance and income to buy a boat I was already brand loyal; never even looked at others.

^^^ I went on a factory tour when my 2nd G was being built. As we walked up the gent drilling the holes in the transom for the NSS had worked for Nautique for ~23?yrs which is impressive. But what blew me away, was that his father had worked for Correct Craft for 40?yrs before him.

I have been thinking about how to do this. I will make sure this thread gets to the factory somehow.

Quality. If you saw my first post on my experience, and Nautique's recovery-that says it all. I knew the boats had great craftsmanship, having been in my neighbor's 2016 G23, but their commitment to service/quality is impressive. I'm coming from a quality (though different purpose) boat in a Cobalt.

It took me a while to figure out the awnser to this question. I started wakeboarding in 2002 in South Africa behind a center console rib that was a boat my dad built. A few months after that I got an early 80s Ski Supremes, at that time the new boats were totally out of my price range but the boat I coveted was the 2001 Ski Nautique as it was the great wakeboard boat that was still a possibility for me.

Fast forward 13 years and I'm living in New York City married with a kid and decided it's time to get a boat. I didn't even really think about it at the time but I only really looked at Nautique's. Super Sports were a bit outside of my price range as I didn't want to spend more than 10k. I decided to skip the 2001 and get a boat with composite stringers and ended up with a 1995 Sport Nautique. Had a blast with that boat last year and bought a 1996 Super Sport back in April.

The Super Sport is really the same as the early 2000 SANs I thought I'd never afford back in 2002.

I didn't really consioisly choose Nautique but once I owned my first, I haven't been able to see myself in anything else.

Similar experience. On my third Nautique now. First was used. Second brand new one.

As it reads in my bio, first boat was a 1990 Ski Nautique and I now have a 2000 Pro Air. Why?? The first one was in town, within budget and my buddies from that time had Mastercrafts so I wanted something different!! The second one was also a budget buy mostly but by then I'd had 4 summers with the first one and loved Nautique boats. Also, in most of their ads Nautique didn't do the "babe in bikini" cliché shot so as a father of two girls I thought this was a plus. I'm on my fifth summer with the Pro Air and I'm enjoying the crap out of it! Would love to upgrade eventually, buy really this boat fills all our needs.

On our second Nautique and love it. Funny thing is that there are no dealers around my area so not many around. The lake we are on the most has a huge Mastercraft following but they just don't compare in my opinion. No doubt they are good boats but as a MC owner said when I took him for a ride "man, these are pieces of beauty... ". He commented about how simple yet elegant the boats are. I think he hit the nail on the head!!!

I worked at a marina for eight years and have been in and around countless boats; very few boats are as well put together, with quality materials, and with designs that won't look outdated in 10-15 years. I think MasterCraft does a lot of things right; they were way ahead of the rest for composite stringers, for example. But the designs don't all age as well as most Nautiques. Look at a mid-90's MC MariStar 225V or something, compared to a SuperSport of that era. This is what I like about the early 00's Nautiques in particular - like an E39 M5, they are classy, timeless, and still look great 15-20 years later. At risk of offending those with newer boats, I may have to qualify that statement to exclude just about any current wake boat on the market; I just don't know how well these big, complex-looking boats will age as compared to the simpler, cleaner designs of the not-so-distant past. But only time will tell and I hope I'm wrong. And they do look pretty amazing at the moment.

Either way, I still hold Correct Craft high, and I will probably never sell my '03 sante.

In my sleep last night I thought of a good analogy. A Nautique is like Cheerios. Most other boats are like store brand "Toasted O's" or something. Same basic ingredients, same basic manufacturing process, you put the same milk in each; but one is clearly different, and better. In this analogy, a MasterCraft is RiceChex. Still pretty good, just different. A Pavati would be like Fruit Loops - so different it's almost not even cereal. I suppose then, an old wooden boat is like hot oatmeal. Not even the same category but satisfying in a different way.

That's my crazy thought for the day. Carry on.

I would agree with you here on how these wakeboard/surf boats will age over time. I had the same thought when I recently traded my classy/simplistic 2001 Sport Nautique in for the 2017 G23.
