First post - Foot wear on your boat?

Hi all, I'm waiting to receive our first boat in a few weeks. It's a 2017 G23 - and needless to say, we're very excited.

I have been following the forum and really appreciate the input and insights I am getting from users here.

Since we will be taking lots of people in the boat, I am thinking of what to do about people's footwear. I read on another post that some people have everyone take off their shoes before entering the boat. Is this necessary?

It depends on how much dirt you're okay with having on your boat. I'm not a nazi about it, but I usually recommend to my passengers that they take their shoes off.

6" min height pumps. I have never had an issue with any type of shoe as long as they are clean.

I have always required any type of shoe/sandal to be removed prior to boarding the boat or trailer. Older boats did not have any way to enter boat without stepping on your vinyl or gel coat. Scratches and tears is all I can picture. The G has a walk through area, so they are not stepping on the vinyl, but I was always taught to remove shoes before boarding a boat.

Good point about the trailer. Shoes will waste a trailer finish in no time. Most dealers ask people to take their shoes off too before they enter. The way I usually enter my boat from a dock is step onto the swim platform, take my flip flops off and walk up through to the front.

Shoes off - what do you need them for anyways on the boat? And sandy feet better be rinsed in the lake first as well, which is why I prefer people come in from the platform where it's easy to dunk feet.

No shoes of any kind on the boat. If we're going to the lake restaurant to eat, you hand-carry yous shoes on and off.

Source: Years ago someone stepped onto my boat wearing flip-flops. No big deal, but they stood on the vinyl and decided they needed to turn around to grab something. When they did, they twisted their foot. I had a huge swirl shaped scratch on my vinyl until I eventually redid the entire boat.

Same here no shoes, I don't want them stepping on the vinyl or the fiberglass and scratching it up.

No shoes in my 10 year old Nautique either. I think it's a good mindset to get into, not just for shoes, but overall taking care of it so it lasts. Plus, its an easy way to talk about other boat rules. I make my kids tell others about our rules - no shoes in the boat, no stepping on the seats, no sand in the boat, no red drinks, etc. That way my kids think about it. Plus, in 5 years, when you're ready for a brand new one, some lucky family will buy your boat in mint condition and at premium resale value.

                            Congrats on your new boat.
