All you folks who have silicone sealed your cup holds will be sorry you did this when you decide you want to remove them for whatever reason. I will take them rattling around all day long vs fighting like mad to get them out to clean or access the courtesy light plug near them when you decide to install lighted led holders.

agree, i would not glue mine in, nice to be able to pull out to clean...don't know if others are different mine are the led, and with the two little rubber rings, mine are not really loose.

I agree. Mine are pretty snug, and do not rattle. Getting a hand in that compartment is often really nice. In some cases, if you have to remove a panel, removing the cupholder is the only way to reach the fasteners, and you may actually do damage trying to get them out.

I think a better solution would be to put a rim of electrical tape around the top of the cupholder, which will snug it right up so it doesn't pop out when you grab your drink. Make the tape rim as thick as you need it until the cupholder resists coming out.

I later posted what a marvelous recovery Nautique had by flying me out to water test my new boat (2nd one) on their lake. Ron Nace was great. Now we get to delivery... I took delivery last Wednesday. Fifteen minutes after running the boat on my own, it began throwing codes about the left (port) bank catalyst... To fast forward through the agonizing details of the past few days, a tech and I discovered that PCM put NO CATALYST on the port side inside the manifold. None. Zero. Zilch. I, also with that same tech, will be installing one on Wednesday of this week. Though I know I will love the boat when I get it de-bugged, this is crazy. Most of my cup holders were not siliconed down (driver cup holder comes right out with a beer in it). The starboard most tower speaker is not working. In short, I have fixable bugs... I had none of this with my Cobalt from jump street... It is blowing me away that I've spent well over two times what my Cobalt cost with these bugs. (The catalyst absence is positively laughable)... Again, I know I will get all of this worked out, but goodness, this process has been a train wreck...
Hmmm, I thought we were the only one experiencing some of these QC or shake down issues or concerns. RDT-G23 We just took delivery of our G in the first weekend of June 2017. The first weekend out, the starboard side JL tower speaker quit working, then the motor (H5) generated a code of DTC 1422(exhaust riser temp high 2 voltage high), then the wonderful POLK stereo started visually changing sources on the LINC screen, so as the wife and I are deciding to go back in for the day or make the best of it, I grab a glass out of my drink holder (Kool-Aid) it decides to come with it. So, I check some more and they are loose as well. So being a little OCD like I am, we decide to head back in. Looking at the boat much closer now, we find a spot on the tower that has been sanded down, that had been patched with a flat black paint instead of the gloss black from the factory this was all within the first 3.5 hrs of operating the boat.

So, I called the dealer on a Sunday and they came down Monday, picked up the boat. The dealer had my boat for a week, fixed speaker, it was a bad connection at amp. Then they replaced a sensor to eliminate the code issue. Then the dealer switched out the head unit for a new one, cleaned and detailed the boat and returned it to me on Friday morning. The wife and I go for a ride, as we're heading back to the lift, the Polk head unit starts changing sources all on its own again. I take a video and send it to the dealer. The other items will be done at its first break-in service.

I have to agree with you. You know the problems (except radio) will be taken care of, IN TIME...but we really shouldn't have to wait for that. The money, time waiting for repairs, in/out services, etc. can become a little frustrating.

Sorry for the long post.I just think getting info out there so we know who to contact and address concerns with is important. Thats one of the ways the company can improve quality, vendors or processes. The more Ron Nace(Quality Service Manager) at Nautique is aware of these issues/concerns, it may allow them to put structures into place to decrease issues/frustrations for new boat deliveries and dealers..

I would guess Ron knows about these issues. And is just doing the best he can to manage the situation. He probably has very limited influence on the actual quality of the product.

I don't understand why there are people sticking up for Nautique or any other boat company when it comes to these type of issues. Yes boats are a custom made product, but these boats are a $150k custom made product!!! At that price quality control issues are unacceptable, bottom line.

agree, so many fan boys...custom made is not even a reasonable excuse. used to be custom made meant it was a better product. but on this website custom made, and small production runs is excuse...

p.s. I am lucky on my polk head unit, no problems. the polk amps are pretty weak, but the worst is that the cabin speakers nautique put in gives polk a bad name. polk makes better cabin speakers than that. after replacing polk speakers with wetsounds it sounds very good.

I have to agree with you. You know the problem.
On a related note, I get the Polk head unit problem searching for an input, but never landing on one pretty regularly. You can fix it by turning the engine off and turn off the batteries. It seems like it never happens again until the batteries have been turned off again. So, for example, I was at Lake Powell for a week, and it did it when I first arrived, and then never did it again. It does not do it every time we go out, but often enough to be an annoyance. And it only occurs at the first try. Depending on what the charge is, I may not upgrade when the 2016 upgrade is ready.

I bet they got a hole saw that is a tiny bit bigger than the one used on my boat. My 2016 cupholders are NOT glued in, but they are quite tight, getting them out usually requires a fair amount of side to side twisting, wobbling and pulling. No way they come out with grabbing a drink.

I like the hole saw size comment. However, as some others said, we should stop given Nautique excuses for bad manufacturing processes or design. I personally do not care if they use a tiny or a big hole saw to cut the hole for the cup holder. I care about the cup holder functionality that is holding a drink when the boat is moving, be able to get my drink out without the cup holder, and the cup holder not rattling when the boat is moving. It does look like something manufacturers should excel at designing and manufacturing in 2017.
I will stop the rant now.

A recurrent theme of this thread is to stop giving Nautique a pass when issues happen, and I think we are moving into beating a dead horse territory. I did not give them a pass, I think it actually seems worse that they used to have the cupholders tight and then regressed!

Hardly, a couple of dollops clear marine silicone do not equate to a "welded on" circumstance. The bond will be very flexible. Frankly, the holders will pop out with little trouble when I intend for them to, but won't when I remove my drink (which happens now, and is a major nuisance). (I do have LED cup holders)

It may or may not surprise you guys that don't look at other towboat forums that these exact discussions are happening on EVERY forum. To me, the proof of a great company is how they recover from these issues. Nautique did me right on some minor stuff on my G and seem to be doing others right. That speaks volumes. I can't say as much for what I read on some of the other forums.

Right, the Malibu forum is full of stories like that. To be fair, it looks like Malibu is also doing the right stuff most of the time. Looks like wakeboat manufacturers made the choice to increase volume to the detriment of quality and leverage their dealers to treat quality after delivery. Not sure if this help their bottom line or not, but that would piss off their customers for sure.

No, proof of a great company is not delivering defective boats and then getting them fixed. That's proof of a great dealer network that bends over backwards for customers that just spent 6 figures on a toy. A great company delivers products right the first time.
