    Newly Delivered G-23 Bugs

Many may remember one of (if not my first) post on the forum about my tour of the Nautique factory where I found out that my boat had been destroyed due to a flaw in the hull (that was not communicated to me before I flew out). I later posted what a marvelous recovery Nautique had by flying me out to water test my new boat (2nd one) on their lake. Ron Nace was great. Now we get to delivery... I took delivery last Wednesday. Fifteen minutes after running the boat on my own, it began throwing codes about the left (port) bank catalyst... To fast forward through the agonizing details of the past few days, a tech and I discovered that PCM put NO CATALYST on the port side inside the manifold. None. Zero. Zilch. I, also with that same tech, will be installing one on Wednesday of this week. Though I know I will love the boat when I get it de-bugged, this is crazy. Most of my cup holders were not siliconed down (driver cup holder comes right out with a beer in it). The starboard most tower speaker is not working. In short, I have fixable bugs... I had none of this with my Cobalt from jump street... It is blowing me away that I've spent well over two times what my Cobalt cost with these bugs. (The catalyst absence is positively laughable)... Again, I know I will get all of this worked out, but goodness, this process has been a train wreck...

I think the cup holder coming out with the beer is a new standard feature. Meant to keep your beer cold. Sorry to hear of your experience.

The no catalyst is something that never should have happened. I don't think my cupholders are sealed. They fit pretty snug, and actually it is pretty useful to be able to pop them out the clean them. I can't see how a regular can of beer could stick to the cupholder, so I assume that you had it in a koozie and it was snug in the cupholder, thus allowing you to pull out the whole assembly of can, koozie and cupholder.

I think that means you just need to drink your beer before it gets warm and dispense with the koozie.

My driver's cup holder does that same thing, even with bottled water, and it is annoying. I need to secure it. Minor issue, but shouldn't happen at all.

Is production too high to keep up with quality? I didn't have any problems with my 08 and still don't 900 hours later. I don't remember reading about these kind of issues back in 08 and prier years. Is this the cost of success?

The cup holders are supposed to be sealed by silicone (I talked to Ron Nace). Now, they aren't supposed to be sealed rock-solid, as it may be necessary to get under them (mine are the lighted ones). Speakers not working, a catalyst missing, a few "Christmas Tree" fasteners not engaged. Ray Charles could see we have a problem here with QC. I came to Nautique from a Cobalt stern drive to be able to surf, but expected similar quality. I know all of this will be fixed for sure; as "over the top anal-retentive" as I am, I will ensure that all is remedied.

Are they making too many a day to have proper QC? I don't know. I will say that I've toured both the Nautique and Cobalt factories, and they make the same number a day, which is 11-12.

I'm from Texas; have you ever seen Texans drink beer? Like Grant through Richmond...

I took the rubber inserts out of my cup holders so the beer can with a koozie wouldn't get stuck in the cup holder.

I use neoprene Koozies on Corona Light cans (skinny). I'm not having any of that...

the 08 had plenty of issues...I think you got lucky...

on two nautiques, the christmas tree studs never pushed in all the way...I pulled all my upholstery and it is bs how little effort they make to fasten and push these in around the boat.

honestly, I would guess there is a problem in management and the people making the boats don't care much, or feel they can't speak out or something...

Im with you here. Production is too high or pushing too hard for another boat or two a day. I've mentioned it my last to customer surveys. I'm not sure if Nautique reads those or it's just for dealer. You can see it in gel/glass as well. Happens in every time in a production process when you push to hard. Probably some lean process guy that says we should be able to produce x boats per day without any production knowledge.

There are several gel waves in my 11. Don't have them in my 1981, my uncle doesn't have them in his 94, and I didn't have them in my 2000. Sad.

Seems to be some concerning trends with the QC. I was thinking of getting a new gs this year but this has me second guessing myself. These types of things should never be missed for the amount of boats that are built. Not to mention the price being paid for them.
