1986 Ski Nautique 2001 - Wouldn't start after sitting in the rain????

First issue all summer ......Tied off on the dock during a rainstorm this weekend. I left the bimini up to keep as much dry as possible. After the storm passed I went to load up but I couldn't get the motor to turn over.....AHHHHH!
    • Battery was good
    • All gauges worked fine
    • Checked the Neutral Safe wire connections on motor, they were good
    • Everything worked except for Starting Up.

Ended up pulling it with the jet ski to the ramp and loading up. As soon as I got home, the first thing I did was try again. Fired right up on the First turn!!

Wondering if something got wet that shouldn't have? Or maybe something in the morse control with a Neutral Safe issue?

I'm Stumped, especially since it's running just fine now.

    ANY THOUGHTS????

Could have been a ton of moisture inside the distributor cap that got a chance to dry out. I've seen that a few time. Take it off, give it a good drying off, put it back and and you are good to go. (tho not sure what you mean by turn over. It cranked but wouldnt start or the starter did not even go) If the latter, ignore me offering.)

Thanks! I'll give that a shot, I'm sure I'll run into it again. Basically what I meant was turning the key did nothing but turn on the gauges on, the starter didn't even go.

Ah, than my explanation is not applicable. Sounds like iffy connections somewhere. Give all your applicable connections a good cleaning and tightening.

My 85 did this all the time replace the starter relay. I had to replace mine about every 3 years. You can arch it with a screw driver if u get stranded.

Clean all battery connections from battery to starter. possibility of corroded ignition switch as well. a test light at time of failure would be usefull.
