Maybe its just my fam's boat, maybe its a 216 thing, maybe its a Nautique thing, but whenever we fill it up, gas ALWAYS overflows. It sucks... When we gas up on land, we usually gas up the car at the same time. (very expensive) Since the gas cap on the car is on the left, we gas up the boat on the port side also. But, the gas overflow is on the starboard side. We get hit double now--the pump stopps, we wait a sec, and about a pint of gas starts splashing back up and out of the boat, usually getting a little on my hand and a lot on the ground. After we clean up the gelcoat, we find its just as bad over on the starboard side as well. I've actually started to see a little faded blue on the areas where the gas has been--even though its never sitting on the hull for more than a minute or two while we clean it.
Is this a design flaw? It doesn't happen on my friends MC or my uncle's '82 2001. At $4+ a gallon on the lake I don't want ANY of it being donated to the environment. I'd rather see this fixed in '07 than a new graphic design or marketing scheme...
