    Surf behind a 226

Anyone surfing behind a 226? I just started this weekend and was able to get lots of slack in the rope but could not seem to stay in the pocket long enough to keep the slack for an extended (1 min +) period of time. In addition I am unsure of how far back from the swim platform I should be, there where times where I was six inches from the back of the platform, not a problem just wondering if that is too close.

For weight I had the starboard and belly ballast full with three other people behind the driver. The boat was set to 13.1 mph on the perfect pass, anything slower seemed to create a very unclean wave.

If it helps, I was riding backside

    Any thoughts?

13 seems fast, but i havent surfed behind a 226 before. on my 211 we surf port side 9-11mph. i fill stock port and center tanks, + 400lbs bag on top of port tank, and 700lbs bag in ski locker. then put all people on port side of boat. driver then stands in center or slightly to port side. surf wake is then pretty good. Key is to get all weight off of starboard side. if you surf starboard just reverse what i said above.

It sounds like you need a bit more weight. We did surf behind a 226 and it worked fine but we had ALOT of extra ballast (about 1000lbs additional on the side we were surfing).

When we surf behind my SAN we usually run at least 2500lbs total not including people.

Agree with jonfo - 13mph seems fast. Although I am still learning to surf, and trying to find that sweet spot, I am no expert. The speeds we've seen that has worked are in the range of 7 - 9mph.

I'm goofy footed, so I ride starboard side. Belly Ballast 60%full, Starboard is full, Port is empty.
All passengers are also on Starboard side.

on my 211 i dont have a belly balast, but i fill the port tank (side i ride on) and the starboard tank about 30%. most of the people on the port side. i ride at 8.5-9 mph and i can hold it there with no rope as long as i want. if my legs could stand it, id ride all day. dont worry too much about getting to close, i can ride right up to the platform and step off and get into the boat. not the safest thing to do tho.

Thanks for the advise, I am going to play with the belly ballast (reduce) to see if that helps. The reason I had 13 mph set was because the wake got cleaner, at slower speeds it was really foamy and would wash out. I am going to try and slow it down and place weight differently. One issue is that I do not have any fat sacks so no extra weight possible, will just have to invite more people
