If you have the Boatmate XL trailer option, which only comes with 15" wheels on a double axle, or the triple axle trailer you are good to go. If you have the dual 18" set up you have roughly 500 pounds available with an unloaded stock boat (assuming full gas tank). If you have a bunch of gear, stuff, coolers, etc. you could be over the rated weight capacity - especially if you load it up with weight.

So the consensus is that Boatmate is making a trailer for a specific boat that is within 500 pounds of being over limit and Nautique and it's dealers are selling a $130k boat on a trailer that is at or within a few hundred pounds of max capacity?
Seems like these two companies would do better homework than this if it's all true.

A G23 (dry) is 5900 pounds. Add 500 pounds wet (fuel and fluids) = 6400 pounds. Dual axle 18" wheel G23 capacity is 6900 pounds. They have a note on that page stating:
"We are now offering an XL or Extra Load rated trailer for the G23. XL models can only be ordered in the 15" wheel setup and recommended for those customers that may travel long distances or with a heavy load of gear on board. 18" Wheel options can't be rated at 10,000# GVWR unless ordered as a Triple-Axle Setup."

So, ideally speaking, what would be the better trailer, the tri-axle or the XL set-up?
I was also told that you can not get the fold-in tongue on the XL trailer. So if storage is a big thing you might not be able to use it anyway. Does anyone know if you can get the fold-in tongue on the tri-axle?

If the triaxle wasn't so much more expensive, I would have gone with it. A triaxle puts less tongue weight on the tow vehicle, and tracks better going down the road. It's a better setup, but not necessary, and costs almost 2k more. If I was towing long distance, I might have gone triaxle just to have better tracking and less trailer sway.

I also doubt a dual axle 18" Boatmate G23 trailer is going to fail with most basic set ups, a weight rating is a weight rating. The concern would be that if you are in an accident you could get some scrutiny around trailer specs and limits - as you could technically be overweight depending on your situation.Last edited by blueroom; 08-22-2017, 11:21 PM.

That's a really, really nice looking wave! I'm glad you were able to make your wife happy. This is truly the key for us men to keep buying our toys!
I totally understand fine tuning and trying different setups. However, it sure does seem like we have a lot of G series having trouble dialing in surf waves?? I would be hot if I spent 100k plus and couldn't push a button and get the best surf wave available. Especially when it seems like Nautique is catering more towards surfing nowadays.

No problems here. I just looked at my Instagram account over the last few weeks. Pics are all the same G23, stock ballast, primarily stock settings (we will adjust slightly depending on board/rider), same lake and same rider. : ) The fourth pic shows how far back you can get on the stock wave - right around where the camera is.
