GS20 vs GS22 ski wake - how different are they?

Hi - I am in the market to replace our 211, primarily looking for an improvement in surf wake/ease, but not wanting to sacrifice much/any ski capabilities and actually hoping for an improvement in ski wakes, as my 3 kids are all still focused on slalom but with a growing interest in surfing.

There are a number of features in the 22 that we like (e.g. 2 extra rear facing leanbacks, more room generally), hence are leaning towards the 22 rather than the 20, but I wanted to know what the difference in ski wakes would be. I ski at 32 and the kids are at 26 to 28mph.

Finally, for those with a 20 or 22, where do you store your slalom skis - we have 4 and looking in both the 20 and 22 at the weekend, there is no easy/obvious space to store them - currently in our 211, we put them all under the spotter seat.

Hey! We are the proud owners of a GS 22, so figured we would add our feedback. We did not look at a 20, mainly because we wanted the additional people/storage space. In regard to your question about where to put the skis, we put ours in the storage lockers in the back, next to the engine compartment. our 69 and 67 inch skis fit there fine. Both compartments (either side) will work. We are also looking to sub out one of our Triton racks with a ski rack (we had three couples on the boat skiing this weekend). You can easily get 2 skis in each compartment and 4 if necessary.

Our friend has a 2013 Prostar and the consensus is the wake behind the 22 is pretty close to as good as the Prostar. However, we are all recreational skiers and will not be running the course, although several of the group are very aggressive slalom skiers. We have been skiing at 30-32. Speed does help the wake.

    Hope this helps.

Here's a pic a PN member (don't recall who) posted of the GS20 slalom wake. It's about what you may expect from a V drive, where the intended purpose is not slalom, so let's not get ahead of ourselves and compare it to a Prostar wake

Point taken. I should have emphasized the recreational nature of our skiing. My ability level might generously described as "enthusiastic". But we love the boat!

Does the GS22 wake look about the same? I wish I could remember the details, but I think the GS20 pic is at 32mph? If it's even similar, I'd think it would be an improvement over a 211 for the OP?

Yes, I think so. The middle part of the wake is foamy, but very soft,, so looks more imposing than it is... I should also mention (as I think someone else already did in a post) that the boat is very sensitive to weight distribution in slalom mode. But easily managed. I'll try to take a picture next week when we are at the lake and post...

The conditions were bad,but I had video on a GS 20 at 15 and 28 off, 34 mph. It was pretty good when compared to my friends 95 prostar. I am sure the 22 will be a little worse, but manageable. I was amazed at how big the GS felt for a 20 ft boat.

This is my 24mph Prostar wake. I don't think the GS and PS belong in the same discussion Just razin' you!

Thanks for the feedback/input guys - but still trying to figure out (in advance of my test day ski sessions on both boats) how much worse the 22 will be to the 20 - I'm hoping for not much at all, meaning the 22 is a true option. However, if the 22 is materially worse than the 20, my choices will be reduced to just one, the 20.

I have a GS20. We love it! I was told by our dealer that it skis significantly better then the 22. We have spent lots of time skiing behind this boat. In MY opinion I would think they would ski very similar. They are same width and close in weight. When you ski the boat is very nose down. The tracking is non-existent and VERY weight sensitive. We have skied 28-34 mph and all line lengths from 15-35 off. 15 awesome! 22 and 28 scary hard at any speed. 32 and 35 are course worthy at 32 and 34mph. 15 off at 28-34 is a fantastic recreational ski wake. We store our skis in the port side rear locker. I think it all comes down to $$$ and size. I feel the ski wake will be similar. Only way to know is try both.

I also sold my SV211 to get the GS22 - there is really no comparison between the boats. The storage is better, the boat handles rough water better, there's tons more room, and the ski wake is infinitely better - I agree with J Dub - it is extremely weight sensitive, and at shorter line lengths it gets pretty hard, but all in all it's the best ski wake I've ever had from a vdrive.

Are you serious? I wish that was the case. I so badly wanted to buy a gs20 but after 3 demos and a buddy skiing behind it, it's. It's not even close. My 2012 210 slalom wake is much softer than the gs. Skiing at 34mph, 15' off, the ski pops off the gs wake like nothing I've felt before. I'm not a great skier but I run through the course at 15' off 34mph, someone that is a good skier and can keep it on edge every cut may not experience the pop. It honestly kills me to say it as I really wanted this boat but it's the absolute truth.
