    G23 Battery Maintenance Option?

Hi, I'm configuring my 2018 G23 options list and I would like feedback on the Battery Maintenance Option. There is very little description of the option on-line.

I occasionally will use an external charger to fully charge my batteries before a long day on the water where we may be watching fireworks or an air show with the interior lights on and music playing but without the engine running. So far I have had no problems running the stereo and LED lights for two - three hours with this approach. Will the battery maintenance option allow me to fully charge the batteries without connecting my own charger? Do people have an opinion on getting this option?

    Many thanks,

    Gregg

Love it. Has an "inlet" by the drivers seat that you plug the end of an extension cord into and will charge / trickle.

I have it on my 2014 g21...It does work pretty good. It came with the boat that I bought from prior owner...If you are handy you could install the same one yourself...

It was not something I would have paid for from the dealer. But it is quite nice. On my old boat I moved the charger back and forth. This is better in the long run.

I don't really use it at all during the season. I just use it as a trickle charger during the winter so I don't have to take the batteries out of the boat! Worth it IMO.

I have found the Genuis chargers more durable. Sealed and waterproof.

I don't think it's a very worthwhile option. It's a built-in battery charger and unless you're careless, you really won't use it much. The only use case beyond that is off-season maintenance.

I have a battery charger. With it NOT being permanently attached to the boat I can use it for my jetski, lawn tractor, old SUV I don't drive much anymore, etc. IDK how much it costs from Nautique, but I'm sure it's WAY more than a good charger from Amazon.

Not sure how much the option is but I always add an in boat charger. Good ones can be bought for a couple hundred bucks and installation is fairly simple. Our G has the factory option and I love how simple and clean the install was... In short if your handy around the tool box it maybe cheaper to do yourself or if not its a nice way to keep up with batteries for sure. Undercharged batteries can over work the alternator. I like to keep mine plugged in while not in use but we have a lot of draw from stereo equipment and I feel like hot batteries sound better...Probably in my head! LOL!

List for the option in 2018 is $279. After discounting you are paying around $200. Well worth it for the convenience, factory install and warranty. My guess is if you and a buddy install a charger and it frys something, you are on your own. A factory installed charger goes wiggy, and you are covered. I have used mine a number of times this summer, once when both batteries were drained down - popped an extension cord in overnight and good to go in the morning. Honestly one of my favorite low-priced options.

I agree about the genius. That said, I had a genius 2 bank go dead after about a year... Made one phone call, boxed it up and they sent a new one back - that actually has heavier cables and wires... For those who think it's just a charger, some are a battery maintainer. They monitor and condition the battery(s) as well.

I have it on my 14 G23. Love it. We plug it in on Sundays when we leave the lakehouse and then of course leave it plugged in all winter.
