Sell it quick price for 2018 G23?

Just trying to do a little planning and expectation setting for myself on the next boat.

What do you guys think is a good "move it fast" price on a slightly used 2018 G23. It would most likely hit the market next August or so, and would have <75 hours on it. Trailer would be included.

    Thanks everyone!

That's a loaded question. What's MSRP, options, trailer????

      Could be 130-145

I think MSRP will be irrelevant, as I've learned the market will pay what they want to pay for a used boat....largely determined by the price of the other used/new G's.

        It'll have:
        *XR 550
        *Factory Bimini with Surf Pockets
        *2 Pair Tower Speakers
        *Pocket Air Dam
        *Heater w/ Defrost
        *Cover
        *Trailer

I am notoriously stingy. Moving a boat in August with much of the summer behind us can be difficult.

My rule of thumb is that you take a 10% hit the day you drive off the lot, and another 10% for each model year old the boat is. So you have to consider what the buyer can get a new 2019 boat for from your dealer and subtract 20%. As a general rule, you lose money on most options, so a boat with the right engine, and lesser options may lose less.

There are other factors as well. If you get a stoopid color, or you have to dump some money into gelcoat repairs (that never happens, right?), or your location in the country, all make a difference. The 550 is like a 10K upgrade, right? You may sell quicker with that engine, but won't recoup an equal percentage of what you paid for it.

I think it's more than that. The 450 is $8000 more than the 409.

In August you will also be competing with remaining 2018s that dealers will be hot move. Plus my understanding is that the factory usually has a few of of the current years models that dealers didn't take or were for unused build slots that they offer to all dealers at a reduced costs. You will be competing with those as well.

Besides avoiding crazy colors, I would highly recommend a main seat color that is white. Going with a dark color will be a turn off for most of your potential buyers from southern states and that's a large population of buyers. Given time the cool technology vinyl may change that but if you are looking to flip a boat quick in 2018 it would be wise to stick with white IMO.

I probably wouldn't expect it to move until late winter or spring. I guess what I'm looking for is, if you were in the market to purchase in either a new G or slightly used G, what number would make you say - that's a steal, let's get a deal done?

Would the mid-$120's do that, or do you think it'd have to be in the upper teens?

If this helps I bought a lightly used (35 hours) 2016 G23 in late August of 2016 from a motivated seller for over 30% off MSRP. Anyone buying that time of year is looking for a great deal and has most of the negotiating power. Big swing from the spring time.

I'm totally guessing on your boats MSRP but assuming it's in the 175K range I think the previously posted $129,900 is spot on for an asking price. Prepare to get low-balled.

This is why MSRP is VERY Relevant!!!!!!!! Load your boat with all options you see fit and then from there it is a percentage game OFF the MSRP. That's what buyer should be looking at to compare whether NEW or USED is best route.

There was a white and black '17 on boat trader with 550 motor, nice trailer, bimini, 1 pair tower speakers listed for 124,900 in Salt Lake City. It's not on there anymore so I'm guessing it's sold, it was only up there for about 1-2 weeks. "That's a steal, I'd drive 16 hours to get it at the end of August" price for me would be about 115 with the 550. Knowing I'd be putting it away soon thereafter until May '19.

Short answer, I'm with thedude. The move it quick price next august/sept... 115.

Obviously long answer is being debated here, and agree with your point on people don't usually compare options equally for used.

Sometimes the 550 seems to actually deter interest... why perceived or real overkill?, higher maintenance?, fuel efficiency worse?

Iron, speaking as someone looking to upgrade to a G23 in the next year or two, I'm curious why the 550's? I see you obviously have a lot of experience with this boat and always get that. I didn't necessarily have that on my 'wish list' of options. Do you feel it's needed?
Fwiw I wakeboard about 90% of my use of the boat.

What I'm saying here strictly applies to wakeboarding...

If you plan to run the boat at full capacity: 100% stock + 2500 lbs (either people or ballast or lead) + a full tank of gas, I've found that 450 struggles a bit. If you want to go further beyond that, the 450 won't push it. The older 550's (without the 2:1 tranny) still are able to push about 1k more than the 450 w/ 2:1 transmission. I think the 450 is plenty for 95% of the owners.

I have a friend who lives on the lake who traded in his 2016 G23 with the 450, for a 2017 with the 550...he also wakeboards.

If you like the wake at lower weights than described above, the 550 is major overkill.

Surfing, I think any engine would suffice.
