G21 wake setup for younger riders

Does anyone have experience with setting up a G21 wake for younger, aspiring wakeboarders so that it's not intimidating? My son is 10 and can easily clear the wake heelside and toe side on my '07 SANTE 210. He rides at 20.5 mph at 55 feet rope length. He's also a very solid wake surfer and we both want to upgrade to the G for surfing, but I'm concerned about the wakeboard wake slowing his progress if it's too big or steep. I know lower numbers on the NCRS would help and maybe ballast up front to help mellow the wake? Any advice would be much appreciated!

At 20.5 you are good to go...IMHO you can create a clean wake down to about 18 mph...You will be able to adjust the wake like you said with weight and NCRS. But be reminded that the bigger heavier boats are more finicky and prone to wash out with wind, and lake traffic. I had a 2008 210 that we heavily weighted, and the wake was somewhat smaller my g21, but much easier to get and keep clean. Just know that there are trade off's when you make this change.

For surfing I would say that the surf wake was pretty darn good listed on my 210...With a suck gate it probably would have been similar but listed less.

Summary: the boat will not be advancing your riding near as much as you would hope it would...Your going to gain a ton of storage space, but not all that much in riding ability. A good rider is a good rider regardless of boat.

Unless you have 1100 sacks on each side in the back or 750 piggy backs, you have probably NOT outgrown your 210...So you can get a g21 or not. Up to you...

Thanks for the response! I have piggyback 600s in my 210, but never fill them to capacity as it creates too much bow rise. I don't have additional bow sacs, nor do I want them. The rear lockers are gone with the extra bags. Used to list the boat, but now run a Wakesurf Edge which helped a lot. It definitely cleaned up the wave and created more pocket. The G would be a major upgrade in terms of storage, wave adjustability, and power. I run my boat a lot at 6000' elevation and would opt for the H6 in a G21. I'm an avid wakeboarder, and the 210 wake is fine for me and my son at this point. We just want to be able to easily create a better surf wave without extra bags in the way. My days of learning new wakeboard tricks are over, but I'm hoping to improve on my surfing abilities while not putting a damper on my son's wakeboard wake.

Get the G21 and don't look back. This boat does so much really well. Like mentioned above, it won't make you a better boarder or surfer but will satisfy the want or need for a better wake. I love my G 21 for all the activities. One more thing. You can make the wake what you want it....not intimidating at all.

You can get a clean wake down to 16 mph on one side, if you do not have a lot of weight and people in your boat. Just move the few people to get both sides .

I have a 2016 210 and I pull my 13 year old cousin. The boat has presets for beginner, intermediate, and pro wakeboarders. The main changes in the profiles are the ballast settings and small speed changes. I adjust the speed once going to clean it up based on current lake conditions. I think if I were you id start at the tanks half full and see what you son says. if its too much dump water and if its not enough add some.

Haven't been in your boat - but I can attest to the LACK of bow rise in a G21 being impressive.

Kenv, do you surf much on your G21? How does it compare to a G23 surf wave?

Yep....I've surfed a lot this summer. New people trying and old ones getting more comfortable. I have not tried a G23...in fact I ordered my G21 blind no test drive. I have not surfed any other boat than mine. BUT...based on comments on here, I would say the G23 is probably "better" stock and loaded then a G21 is. 21 and 25 are different...but 23 probably makes more people happy. Also....once it gets the reputation as the best of the line....people just have to have "the" best boat that the pros use. Based on what I've heard, the 23 wave is longer than the 21 wave stock....as where the 21 is close to the boat and tall. I don't run any extra ballast.....so I can't help you there. One other thing to remember, all three Gs have the same stock ballast capacity....2850.....but slightly different waves on each of the boats. If I had to get a new one...which I will in 2020...I'll probably go G23.
