Run away or look for a deal? Need advice on a boat

Hi all, I've got the opportunity to purchase a boat after summer camp closes this year. Its a 2005 SN 216 Limited Edition. They put a new motor in 3 years ago and have put 800 hrs on since then - so I estimate there are about 2400-3000 hours on the boat. The interior has been replaced. Needs a good cleaning, but doesn't look to be abused. Run away? Look for a good deal? Goal for me was a family friendly ski boat (open bow). 216 was bigger than I was thinking. Been targeting sport nautiques, but this falls in the same price range, and I ski a 206 now (friend's boat). Thoughts?

Hours don't mean much on a boat. Boat is either in good condition or bad condition.

With 800 hours in 3 years the engine probably has another 1000 hours + left in it before it needs a rebuild.

I'm not that well versed in 216 prices but 15k Neg for a 2006 boat with a new medium hours engine and new interior seems good to me.

Seems like a fair price to me. I'd get the compression, oil pressure, and fuel pressure checked. If all is good then I see nothing wrong with that deal! You'll definitely grow to appreciate the extra space!

I don't know I think I'd rather be closer to $10k. If it was used by a camp and has close to 3,000 hours you can bet there are other items that need to be replaced. Things just get worn out eventually.

If I were you I'd look for a '99-02 Sport Nautique. There are a handful of them on onlyinboards in what looks to be pretty good condition. They seem to go for $13-19k now.

Camp boats get the absolute piss beat out of them.

Hence a boat from 2005 already having an engine and an interior replacement. It's only worth it if it's an absolute steal and you're ok with probably lots of dings and imperfections.

Have you seen it? Any pics?

Why estimated hours? What does the hour meter read and if it has PP what hours does it show?? If doing 260 a year boat would be at 3200 end of season. What motor is in it now? Is it a PCM? Original refreshed or new? Any idea of trans history? What is the condition of the dash/gauges/keypad?? Tower?? Is the new interior factory match with logo's??
Depending on your answers I would say it is a 10-15k boat, likely more like 10. For 15 you are in the price range of a 99'+ 500ish hour sport in very nice condition. Sport will be a better all around boat IMO then the 216.

Pay close attention to the above. One would think the seller is going to have a limited audience with this type of boat (motor swap, interior swap, what you are going to have to swap, what you are going to have to swap later........)

I looked for deals for 1.5 yrs and glad I didn't jump on the numerous ones like mentioned.
I finally got exactly what I was looking for. All original and low hours for a steal of a deal.

You will find plenty of other boats with much less hours if you keep looking, I would rather have an older boat (if need be) that wasn't used that much (under 1K hours.)

I feel like I am always beating the drum about hours...but I think the hours would not be the problem on this boat, but the type of hours that are on it. Being a camp boat, it is driven by people who see it as a money making machine, not a toy to be cared for gently. If it was rented out, then it was driven by people who often have no idea how to drive a boat, which would be even worse.

So don't be afraid of hours on a boat, but more how those hours were spent, and if maintenance can be proven. In the case of a camp/rental boat...get a very DETAILED inspection first.
