    Hydrogate while surfing question

I have a 2017 230, and I prefer the wave when the hydrogate is pushed forward "ramp" (I think).

When I do this I get a ton of spray in my face. Is this common? Any way to resolve this?

    Thanks for the help.

    Here's a summary of the surf setup for a 230: https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...summary-thread

On the Port side, you need to dial in about a "2" on the hydrogate to clean up the lip. On the starboard side, you can do 0 for the biggest wake, all the way forward for the longest.

I understand what it does. My concern is that I prefer the length of the wake when the hydrogate is all the way forward. But I'm getting splashed in the face.

This is a starboard wave BTW.

Any way to resolve that? Or just go to a steeper wake with Hydograte put all the way to "very"?

Speed or bow weight always helped us. Still needs a touch of gate to clean if I remember correctly.

You shouldn't be getting splashed in the face if you are rubbing it all the way forward with NSS at 0. Are you doing that?

The hydrogate is pushed all the way forward and NSS set at 2.

Splash was coming off the convergence point of the wake. (What we always used to call the "rooster tail").

At first I thought it might have been from the under platform ladder, but the water flow was definitely clear of the ladder.

I have upgraded bags on order, so it may totally change when I get those installed. Then I'll mess with adding bow weight too (probably in the form of lead).

If that's the type of wake you prefer, you'll definitely want bow weight.

Your splashing is coming from the NSS being at 2...on that boat if you go past 1 it does that. I understand that going to 2-3 will add push but it really dirties up the wave.

I ride with only my wife and son, and we run full ballast in the back with the bigger sacs, 700 lbs of lead in the rear, full fuel, and 3/4 full on the front ballast at NSS 0, stick forward, and 11.5.

People always think it's a G wave in all of my pictures with this set up. Only time we completely fill front ballast, and/or move lead up front is when we have more than 5 people on the boat.

Gotta be careful with the 230 and a lot of front weight because it nose dives bad with too much weight in the nose.
