    What are the odds? really.

I have to share this story. My friend and I went out Saturday night as we sometimes do to play a little guitar on the water. When we got to our spot, where we like the acoustics, it was very dark, the fog began to set in and the boat seats along with our guitars were soaking wet so we decided to head back to the dock to play. On the way back, my eye caught something in the glow of the bow light in the water. I was just in gear, not moving fast at all so I pulled back into neutral as I saw black hair, then white hair as I approached and I thought it was an opossum swimming across the river. As I struck the creature and it slid down the side of the boat, we realized when the aroma came that we had just struck a skunk! I did not know skunks swim, at night. And what are the odds that just as we decided to head back, at idle speed, we would cross paths with a skunk! The spray did stick to our clothes and guitars but its all good now. Just had to share. Has anyone else ever hit an animal in the water? I do know a guy that hit a deer on a jet ski.

I came a few feet from hitting a deer. Until that point, I had no idea they could swim.

Not in the wake boat but last year in Canada (annual trip with the fellas) was cruising back to camp for lunch when I spotted something in the water maybe a 1/8 mile away. I know most of the rocks that dot the water up there and this was a spot that's 60' plus deep. I swung port and wouldn't you know it, a black bear swimming in the lake. I pulled up about 6 feet off his back ready to take off if he turned. He snorted a bit and swam to shore (maybe another 50 yards) and hopped onto the rocks and then into the bush. It was actually pretty cool to see. Turns out after talking to the camp owners they do see bear a couple times a year swimming, he told us if you saw a bear in the water it will swim a perfect straight line until it hits shore. If that's the case, this old boy must have swam a good mile from the other shore. Anyway, it was pretty sweet.

At my local mud hole we have raccoons that live on the islands in the middle of the lake and at night they'll swim over and ransack the camp grounds. While camping I woke up one morning before dawn and they were EVERYWHERE. When I got up to salvage any food we had left they all took off. Many jumping in the lake and swimming towards the islands.

Middle of the day I saw a deer crossing the lake. It was a pretty good swimmer...... Skunk... I would consider that good luck. Go buy a lottery ticket or enter the billabong G23 giveaway. Thanks for sharing.

I've been out skiing with a friend late season, we were the only boat on the lake, and saw... something in the water, like a branch. On our return pass, I swung closer and it was clearly moving, the skier went out within probably 25 feet of what turned out to be a moose! Just, you know, taking a shortcut across the lake I guess!
