    '05 Air 216 Wake

Hey guys, my buddy just bought an '05 Air 216 demo boat from his dealer, & with the port & starboard ballast full it throws a pretty nice wake. I'm just looking for comparison but how does this wake compare to some of the other boats in the CC lineup. I've ridden behind a 226 last year @ a Demo & thought that was prety big, but i also ride behind a 1978 Ski Nautique i restored, & with 1300lbs of Fatseat in the back it throws a monster wake, but the platform's about 3-5 in. under the water. & ive only put that much in it once, & that was prior to restoration. That's all, just curious for a comparison... thanks in advance (sorry for the ramble)

    RE:

I have a 2005 216 and find with just the stock ballast the wake to be a bit on the small side. (For my novice self) I use stock ballast + a 600 lb sac in the trunk + a 600 lb sac under the floor where the cooler is. To me this gives a really good top lip to the wake. (I need all the help I can get) Yellow_Flash_Colorz: Never been behind a 210, 211, or 220

I've own a 216 (air nautique) and have been behind a 210 several times.

When you add a fat sac in the trunk on top of stock ballast and even it out with another 2-400 in the bow or locker you get a wake that , to me, is almost identical to a 210 with stock ballast..in shape and size...but thats just my opinion.

The first time I rode behind a 210 with full ballast+ it felt the same...the first time I rode behind a supra, mastercraft, etc...its felt like I had to learn all over again.

Can you elaborate on that? What was so different?

The 210 has a very very unique shaped wake. It is extremely vert with not much transition. It just takes some getting used to, otherwise you'll just punch through the wake instead of getting the full pop. It's just different because on other boats you have to wait for the pop, most have alot more transition to them.

Different boats just pop you different, you usually get the hang of it pretty quick though.

Yeah, basically it feels quite a bit different in width, shape and transition than the Supra, MC, and even the CC 220.

For example, behind a Supra, it took me at least two sets to be able to control the pop...I was either going way out into the flats without much vertical or going up and out of control..until I got used to the approach. Now granted, this may be because I suck...

The first time I went behind a 210...I felt perfectly at home. Which makes sense, as I understand that the two hulls from '99 are essentially the same...except one is a V and the other is a DD.

The 216 is a good all-rounder. It will do just about everything and do it well. For sure the 210 wake is the ultimate, the scoop and the steepness and the lip are pretty unique. I'm sure you will both enjoy and progress your riding with the 216. Use some extra ballast though if your serious about your riding as opposed to your skiing... Good Luck

I recently bought an 05 216 TE, I love the boat but would like to get more out of the wake. I currently fill the stock ballasts, have a 700# in the storage locker(which I can't fill all the way up or I can't shut the hatch) and two 250# side sacs. I thought about putting a bag underneath the cooler but wasn't sure it was possible glad to hear that it is. Do you put it sideways or longways? Any other suggestions, I've read about lead weights but never tried it. How long of rope do you guys use? I've been using a 70' where it seems the wake is best but I'm struggling to pull off a W2W.

I've found that most wakeboarders behind the 216 do not ride full length (70') and instead, prefer anywhere from 55'-60'-65', all depending on how much weight (people) and location of weight is in the boat... Putting everyone in the back bench doesn't do the trick; bow weight helps too..

So is it typically the more weight/people the shorter the rope or vice versa?

i dunno how exactly the weight/line length correlate, for me it's just more of a feel thing, start with a 70'/65' line ride for a bit hit it a few times, take a good look @ the wake, see where the crest is nice & clean, & adjust accordingly.

In our '01 Air Nautique we run at 75' (70' line +Handle) 22.5-23mph. Ballast tanks full plus an extra 700lbs our swim platform is just submerged fully loaded. Its about as good as it gets but not even nearly as vert as a 210! we have to go fairly hard to go into the flats the wakes are sooo wide. wakes seem alot narrower behind a 210?

I take the cooler out and put a 600lb sac length ways in there. I fill it up as much as i can, i assume i end up about 400lbs. I like doing that because it leaves the floor space open. I run a shorter rope and a slower spped. 22' off @ 18 mph. Now remember i am no pro, but i do get a good pop and can do basic stunts

when you say 22' off what does that mean. I bought a 375# bag yesterday that I believe is 16"x 30"x60" , it seems to fit perfect under there and hope to be able to fill it all the way up. The only other place I have left to add weight is under the seats in the bow but can't give up all the storage. I've heard about people using lead weights but don't know much about it. Any insight?
