    94 sport nautique

I just picked up this 94 sport nautique for $3000. I am not real knowledgeable on boats and really don't know much about these boats. Can anyone give me some good advice.

You're giving us almost nothing to run with here. That's a low price for a 94. Does it run? What's the overall condition? Is the prop/rudder/strut in good shape? What do you want to do with the boat?

Sorry I know that wasn't very descriptive. The boat does run and in good shape for a 94, some of the interior needs to be fixed. I'm just wanting to know is there anything I need to look for with these boats. How is the matanaince and how much are they worth

Maintenance isn't too bad. Oil & filter every 50 hours. Fuel filter every 200 hours. Impeller replaced at the beginning of every season.

Most of what you need is here: http://www.planetnautique.com/Correc.../1993/93SP.pdf

I could only find a manual for a 1993 but this should be close enough.

Biggest thing with a 94 is the possibility and likelihood that it has a Protec ignition. If that's the case (and it hasn't been retro'd already) you'll have a $500-$1,000 expense when it craps out depending on if you have a carb or the throttle-body injection that was offered that year. If you snap a picture of your engine and post it, one of us can tell you what you have.

$3k for a running sport frankly is a steal. Depending on the market, that boat in decent shape could likely sell for 9-14k, and the depreciation on used boats is very flat. Interiors can get pricey though.

The interior isn't bad, just a few pieces have the stitching loose. It is a efi motor

Well, that's a GT-40, and with that, either your boat is not a 94 (GT-40 started in 95), or your engine has been replaced. With that engine, you really got a steal. And from what I can see in the pictures, it looks like that boat just mostly needs a good cleaning inside and out and some interior replacements, and you'll have a solid boat.

Once I get the boat home ill know more, yes I'm thinking if I can fix interior, tune up motor, and maybe wrap the hull for less than $3000 ill be happy.

Personally, I wouldn't wrap it. You've got pretty decent colors there. Some time with a wetsand/buff/polish would have that thing shining. Every wrap I've seen gets pretty beat up over time too just from general use - so I've never considered it money well spent and just ends up with neglected gel underneath that you'll end up dealing with when you pull the wrap.

That's something to think about for sure, arent those stripes on the boat decals though, if I buff them they will get distroyed

If you're talking about the blue and black that is actually gelcoat not decals. You can buff or even wet sand the entire hull back to a glossy finish. $3k is a heck of a deal. If the mechanical side is in order, looks like just a lot of cosmetic work and you'd have a pretty decent boat. Looks like the trailer needs some work too. Appears as though the tongue/brake actuator was swapped for a standard one.

What's the back story on this boat (if any)? Very curious to hear.

My wife runs a pawn shop and someone got a loan on it and didn't come back for it so I picked it up.

Since nobody seems to have answered you. The boat is worth about 10k (assuming no major issues). I'd guess it's a 1997. It's a really good all rounder family boat. Great for wakeboarding and water skiing.

There is a number at the back right corner. The last two numbers will tell you the model year.

Looks like an early model with an engine swap. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the little button in front of throttle leaver not for cold start on a carby engine? I used to have a 93 Sport and looked just like that. I paid 7k for that and it was real beat up! This boat for 3k is unbelievable!
