2006 Super Air 220 wakeboard wake?

Looking for some people who have or have rode the (2006 era) Super Air 220 wake! Looking at one that is 12 hours from me and would like to know about the wake before I make the drive and decide for myself. I currently have a 2001 Super Air 210. Absolutely love the wake and just want to make sure this boat will be the same or better. I know the OG SAN will be tough to beat! I was not actually familiar with the 220, more so the 210 and 230. I know the 210 and 230 underwent a hull shape change in 2006 or 2007?? I assume the 220 has the same hull shape and had the same change at the same time?? I heard the wakeboard wake got a little less straight up and down after the hull change, so I’m hoping I will hear some input saying this was before the hull shape change. Any other input aside from wakeboard wake would be appreciated as well! This is a team edition boat.

And yes, mine will be for sale if this deal goes through!

I currently own a 2006 SAN 220 Team Edition with the ZR6 engine. The 220 came out in 2006 and had the same hull until it left the market in 2010. I've owned or been behind pretty much every single nautique model out there except for the GS series (OG 210, newer 210, 230, G23) and the 220 wake is my favorite. It gets a bad rep for having a finicky side to side wake but I've really never found it to be a problem. Yes, if you have more people on one side you will need to even things out a bit, but once its balanced the wake is awesome. We ride with stock ballast, 400 lbs up front and 400 lbs in the cabin against the rear seat and the wake is awesome. I pretty much only wakeboard but I hear it is capable of a really nice surf wake as well. Great boat all around.

Thanks for the input! My 210 is pretty finicky to weight as well but my crew is pretty used to making the correct adjustments. Also helps running with Lead Wake bags, they are a life saver! Do you feel your 220 has as sharp/steep of a wake as the OG 210?

The 220 hull never saw a change. It's the same hull. The only difference is in 07 the prop rotation changed.

The 220 wake is the next steepest in the Nautique line right after the OG 210 . So it is a great step up for someone looking for more boat . It's the deepest V hull of any Nautique as well. So the boat surfs very well too. The interior layout was really the only knock against it. Some people would argue it's chopped up with no real flow for seating. All in all it's a great wake machine with a limited run. The price is always 5-7 k below an 07 210 of te same year. I wouldn't hesitate to pull a trigger on one.

The wakeboard wake will have a longer transition and a longer landing zone than your og 210 . You have to wait bit longer to release off the wake . The wake is also much wider so if you're at 80ft on your og 210 come in at least 5 ft probably 10 depending on your speed.

I, like you wanted to but a 220, so I drive 6 hours to test pilot one, after checking the wake for skiing, wake boarding and finally surfing with tanks and bags appropriately full, after discussing the lack (IMO) of surf, when the broker we we're using said, DUDE, YOU WAN'T A 210, so thats what I bought, no regrets.

I'm really not at all interested in the surf wake. I do surf occasionally, but when I do I have plenty of friends with new boats with surf systems. I am really only concerned with the wakeboard wake. I like the idea of having more room inside the boat compared to my OG 210, but I am not a fan of the hump halfway between passenger seat and rear seat. It seems like a waist of a seat to me. I will without a doubt be riding behind this boat before I buy it to make the decision for myself, but just wanted to get others opinions. If I heard nothing but bad I wouldn't even bother making the drive. It sounds to me like it is comparable but maybe one step behind. I have ridden behind a 2014 210 quite a bit and don't have any real complaints but am always happy to get back behind my OG 210. Does anybody here have an opinion comparing the 2006 220 to the 2014 210 wakeboard wake?

the 220 def has a little more lip and steepness then the 210 ........it's just enough to be noticeable. It's worth riding, but bring extra sacs. The stock config is very weak

We had a 220 and certainly found it more touchy side to side than the OG 210's, so it was always something you had to think about.

Aside from that I thought the interior was great for the time and it will suit well if you are looking for extra room. It was the first boat with reversible seating which is super handy. The bin in the centre of the boat was also remarkably useful.

Don't worry about the hump behind the passenger seat as they are removable although I think you will leave it in as it is a useful back rest.

I have a 07 220 and I like the wake board wake, but it has to be weighted right. I found that if you put more weight towards the front of the boat the wake is better. IMO. I still have the factory prop on on mine so with 6 people and stock ballast full with 400 bags in back and 650 in front its struggles a little to get up. I ride at 75 ft and around 23.5 mph. 80 ft is perfect for wake to wake but I find the wave has to much wash on the lip. The wake is hard to get clean on both sides at the same time. We moslty surf now and the surf wave I love.

Mike is right on. Unfortunately. The wakeboard wake is finicky, but is good if you weight properly.

Surfing is very good in these boats when listed. And I added a custom NSS to mine which really improves the wake.

the interior configuration is pretty good, but mine doesn’t have the hump and passengers end up sometimes sitting on the ice chest.

Sure a GS 22 would be better, but it will run you another $80k.

Love my 07 220. But I have nothing to compare it to. I do however like the interior for a young family. To each their own.

So we surf on the goofy side... I have a 400 pound bags in both lockers that are piggy backed. I just cycle the pumps until water spits out the side. When we surf I fill up all the stock ballast and half the 400 pound bag on port side. Fill the 400 pound bag on starboard and I have a 370 pound bag that fits under the seats on the starboard side by the trash can. The boat has to be listed for a good wave and I also have the delta surf gate. Also have a 400 pound bag I put in the front of the boat if nobody is sitting in the front. It helps to make the wave longer. I run about 12.0 mph with this set up and I can get a good wave every time. This picture is with 6 adults in the boat and the wave is clean and long.
