In 07 Tige, Malibu and of cource MC will all have pickle fork nosed boats. How many people see that as a real advantage? I see it as a water scoop, but mayne my take is wrong.

I didn't realize that others were copying the picklefork. Didn't Cobalt have it slightly before MC?
I've never driven an X-Star, but I think the extra space up front in one is nice, and the flat section to put an anchor and a boarding ladder is the BOMB.

In 2003 Cobalt came our with a 240 SD, there sundeck version of their popular watersports model the 240. Unfortunately it really didn't fall into the ride category for the typical "Cobalt Ride" and the model only lasted two seasons. When you go into a pickled bow front, you really flatten the hull and the ride gets pretty rough.

Cobalt did have the first pickle fork. The way I understand it, the person whom designed that Cobalt moved over to Mastercraft to design the 03 and later X Stars. As far as utility, it may help with boarding the boat at the dock, but the new X Stars require a watchful eye from the driver to keep rollers from coming over the bow on lakes with any traffic... In my opinion, it should actually be dubbed the water shovel, not the pickle fork design... That being said, the new X2 appears to have a bow that does sit higher off of the water.

I think your giving to much credit to Cobalt and MC. Both companys used the same designer, he got his design from race boats that have had pickleforks for a long time and they are ugly IMHOCurrent

I really dislike the picklefork design from a usability perspective. I don't like my passengers riding in the open bow when I'm driving or pulling a rider as its a distraction, its not as safe for little kids, and almost everyone with me wants to be behind the windshield.
I really like the 220 from that perspective...cockpit forward, open bow, but space focused aft.

I have driven and rode behind a couple MC pickles, X-star and X45. Not a big fan for the look (similar feelings to how I feel about the back of my 211, functional but ugly). They are really nice for functionality, the front bench is really nice. They are a little tougher to drive but not bad once you get used to the width in the front.

Agree dragon, I had not heard Malibu. MB Sport is definitely introducing a pickle fork to its lineup.
Gman, you definitely have it right. Pickle forks have been around for nearly 40 years. I've heard a bunch of ski boat guys arguing about whose copying who. Makes me laugh. Personally, I don't care for the look. Ski boats should be pointy in front. BKH2001 Super Air

I've been in the new x=stars... and although I dislike the exterior look of a "pickle fork"... The room in the bow is just amazing. I actually don't think CC got it "right" in the 220 with their bow design... and actually believe that similar front design's like the x-star are a wave of the future. I've looked at the new X-2 and really like like the extra space the boat provides with the simliar bow configuration. Since that boat is closest to my 210, that's what I compare to. I like the concept of the Pickle Fork from an interior perspective. I'm not a huge fan of the x-star or mastercrafts due to the wake... but actually think the extra bow room they offer is a huge benefit over my 210 and even the 220.
P.S. Don't get me wrong from my comments... I wouldn't trade my 210 for an x-star or x-2.... my CC totally dominates both from a wake perspective!

I agree 100%. My dad has a '79 Invader Tri-Hull, and when I saw the "deck boats" (not pontoon, but deck) and the pickle forks, the first thing I thought was great another cruddy riding boat. Heck, I still think my boat rides rough, but not nearly as rough as my dad's does.
Long live the Tri-Hulls, just in somebody else's garage.
