Winterization and Storage Price?

Just brought mine in for winterization yesterday; thought the prices were a bit high. (Gonna self store in our heated shed but have another thread on that elsewhere.)

Itemized breakdown as follows:

Job--Winterize PCM engine w/oil change
(stabilize fuel; change engine oil and filter; run and fog engine; drain engine, manifolds, cooler/s, pump) Subtotal labor: $297.46
Parts (Oil, Filter, Antifreeze) Subtotal parts: $50.54
Other Services (Envrinomental surcharge $3, shop supplies $13, freight $5) Subtotal other services: $21.00
JOB TOTAL: $369.00

Job--Winterize Ballast up to three tanks
Subtotal Labor $147.11
Subtotal parts (antifreeze) 11.90
JOB TOTAL: $159.01

Job--Winterize cockpit heater
JOB TOTAL: $65.00

$369.00 plus $159.01 plus $65.00 is $593.00; adding taxes is about $600 total. (I bought a hat and some hot sauce; don't wanna figure out the exact sales tax.)

Seem a little high to anyone else?

One thing I'd add is that most storage places are not going to cover your boat in the event of a fire or something; that will fall to your own insurance - even at a marina, in my experience. So if a place says something about the cost of storage including insurance, I'd push back on that a little; what does it cover, exactly? Your insurance should still cover you in the event of a loss no matter where the boat is stored.

Need more perspective. Was this a Nautique dealer or an indy shop? You are storing an expensive boat in a cold winter climate. Some will say you can do most of this yourself and save some bucks. I guess if I could afford a $100k+ boat I could also afford to properly maintain it.

Nautique dealer. (Not the one I bought it from--if that should matter.) Value of the boat is one of the main reasons I'm letting "the professionals" do it. Reason for my post was to see if that is typical dealer pricing for similar services.

$150 labor to winterize the ballast tanks?? Run them in reverse for a few minutes. Pour antifreeze through vent line. (not required IMO). The shop is giving it to you there for sure.

I would say the prices are fairly in-line with what other dealers in the area would charge. Regardless, it's still a ridiculous price for what's involved. At least the parts quotes aren't too out of line, but when you get down to it, they're charging you $500 in labor for what should be able to be completed in a couple hours max. But that's the name of the game for winterization time, and if you don't fill the time slot, someone else will.

No Wake in Cincy:

$230 for basic Winterization
$90 for Ballast tanks
$160 for impeller change

Cold indoor storage around here is about $110 per month. I've not found any indoor heated spots that make any sense. The limestone mine sounds awesome!

I did my winterization myself this year - I got tired of paying for it. I just pulled the line on the outlet of the strainer and pour in AF till it came out the exhaust and shaft seal.

I do all my own winterizing and I've got a guy who stores 5-6 boats in his heated pole barn for $120mo. Nice place in the middle of nowhere with 24 hour video monitoring and I have my own coded access to access the place anytime I want as long as I give him an hour notice I'm coming by.

Like someone said above, don't rely on your storage facilities insurance! There was a massive storage fire here last year and a lot of those people didn't cary their own insurance and ended up with nothing more left than toasted trailers.

Boat insurance is cheap, especially if you're not using your boat year round.
