Hi all, Debating a lift and slip for next year and wondering what size lift people use. Looks like I'd be right near the upper end of a 3K lift. Are most people with a sport nautique (or maybe even a SN) up into a 3500 or 4k lift?

You should be fine with a 3000# lift, but I would recommend going with a 6000# lift. The cost difference shouldn't be all that significant between a 3000# and a 6000# lift. Down the road if you buy a heavier boat it will cost you about $1 per pound to upgrade from a 3000# to a 6000# lift. Charles and I both know this well because we both upgraded to 6000# lifts recently.

Yeah, you gotta plan like 2 or 3 boats into the future...or you gonna hate yourself every time you trade lifts...Both those guys above eventually got to the #6000....
Just get a #6000 now...and later you will feel like the smartest guy ever...
I received with the house a shoremaster 2596 (#2500), then got a 36108 (#3600), and now have 50120 (#5000). I never thought I would trade the 210...but yeah whatever's....

If you are considering a vertical lift like a Shorestation the 4k lift will be easier to crank up then the 3k lift. Unless you are certain you are going to upgrade stick with a 4k lift. Even if you do find yourself needing a larger one, used 4k lifts are easy to sell and hold their value pretty well. (2) best brands out there for Vertical's are Shorestation and Floe IMO.
One other consideration with a SS brand, the 5k+ lifts are substantially heavier/larger then the 4k's which makes them much harder to move in/out each season.

I bought a 3600 shore station and as Quinner says it is a total pia to crank up. I upgraded the winch to 4000 which has a spur gear for reduction and it flies up with my 1996 Super Sport—which is probably similar in weight to the Sport.
