    2001 decals

im getting ready to remove the decals on 88 so I can wet sand and buff out the gel coat over the winter. I'm debating if I want to go back to the original decals, or if I want to go with something a little more modern to freshen up the look.

Does se anyone have some custom decals there put on theirs to give me some ideas? I definitely won't be going w any type of tribal design.

I do not know if you will be able to get a uniform color after removing the decals and sanding. Those decals have been there for almost 30 years. Even if you get it to look uniform in color without color fade areas it will not stay that way as further oxidation occurs. The surfaces have been treated differently over the 30 years by the sun (areas with no stickers vrs. areas with stickers) My thought would be to leave the boat with no decals. I am not a fan of gaudy decals on painted/gel surfaces for the exact issue I am describing here. Years down the line as in this case it is not an easy repair and has an owner trying to source a set of 30 yr. old decals. In this case you are lucky, I am pretty sure the 2001 decals are available although not inexpensive. I have purchased two brand new trucks that had decals on the sides. The first thing I did when I got the trucks home was remove the decals, so there was not a color fade issue on the vehicles years down the line for who ever owns the truck. Just my 2 cents.

In my opinion, you should replace the original shaded letters. Always think an older Nautique with "updated" graphics looks goofy, like you are pretending your 88 is a 96, 2006 or whatever. Plus, replacing the existing graphics makes the ghosting issue discussed above less a worry. Go over to CorrectCraftFan and ask. I am sure someone over there can let you know where to find a set.
