Different class of boat but I bought my first wake boat a 2000 xstar with 1100 hours. Sold it 2 years later with 1500 hours for 500 less than what I gave. Engine and boat ran great at beginning and end.

As long as routine maintenance engines last a while.

Did you see the one they posted yesterday for $108k with half the hours?

Yeah I did but that’s still almost 30k. Definitely worth checking out, just up there in price.

If the boat is as clean and maintained as advertised, you can basically get a 2015 G21 for the same price as a 2015 210. I would only be concerned about resale, but if your planning to keep the boat 5-8 years some of that difference will balance out if your not a high user. Not many good clean G21s out there for 70K USD.

Sounds like a good deal for someone.

Man, and that's their asking price. With the time of year and higher hours, you should have all the leverage in a negotiation. You can buy a brand new 409 engine on skidim for $12k, if that sets your mind at ease? Before you make the trip, maybe ask them to do a compression check, and get the Diacom readout from the ECM. At 671 hours on my engine, 461.5 were idling around...not ripping someone down a course at 36mph. Good data to have upfront.

Yes. That’s definitely something I would have them do before hand.

Looks like they pulled the graphics off. One of the pics in the link shows them gone.....Still a great looking boat either way.

The yellow one for $108k is only $18k more than we what you’re looking at. About the same cost as a new motor.

Plus it has the appearance package so I’m assuming it’s essentially loaded, whereas the one for $89k is pretty bare bones.

The yellow one also has a better stereo and the premium trailer. You might not care about those things now but the next buyer might.

Didn’t notice that till now. I think it looks way better without them.

When you first said 109 I had usd in my head..

For the yellow one it’s definitely a lot more for the price, it’s just the fact that the price is that high. This may sound weird but I’d rather spend the money upgrading then spending a ton of money on a used boat.

When it starts getting into 110 range it’s slowly entering the price range of new bigger boats. (Z3)

What’s your intended use? If it’s wakeboarding you really aren’t going to beat a G21 unless you get a G23. The Z3 won’t hold a candle. Surfing on the other hand, I have no idea.

Like a couple others have said, if you plan to keep the boat for a while, I think you will be fine and not lose too much. If you will flip in 2yrs, probably not so much.
Definately have the pull the history of hours, that and compression test will be your biggest tell. The 409 is a great engine and will do everything you want it to when propped right.

Mainly surfing and just driving to the ski dock to go for a slalom.

I also was considering surf school.

A friend of mine has a Z3, surf wake is AMAZING, wakeboard Wake is very tipsy.

Compression test and if itÂ’s greater than halfway between new and rebuild time (>50% life left), you should go for it. Also as others have said, be realistic on how many hours you plan to use it for as they will average out with other heavier use boats over time.

Do up a spreadsheet where you make some assumptions like how many hours and how much the resale would be and then factor in a rebuild if you go greater than 2000 hrs and then compare that annual cost of ownership for the assumed ownership period (say 2-5 years) to that of the lower hour boats under a similar analysis and you will have your answer. Don’t forget to consider tax and loan interest if that plays into it.

Unless that engine has been neglected, it'll be fine. If we do the stupid comparison and figure a car averages 50mph, then 1100 hours is 55,000 miles. That's nothing. On top of that, a boat engine runs in a MUCH cleaner environment. I bet that engine is within 90% of new on the compression test.
