Looking to upgrade 210 vs G21 vs 230

Looking at upgrading this offseason from an 02' 210 to either a newer 210, G21, or 230. None of the boats would be new looking at 2014 and up used boats. As much as I would love to order a new boat, I can not seem to justify the depreciation hit a new boat would take. Maybe some day when it feels like I do not have to work so hard for the money I make it will be easier to order a new one. I have had my current 210 for 10 years, it has been a great boat, but seems like less and less of my crew is wake boarding, and getting more interested in surfing. I have not been able to dial in a good surf wave on my 02 especially on the port side. Kind of got the newer boat itch, and with all of the above referenced boats having much better surf wave than my current boat, it seems like a good time to upgrade. I do also have a 04' 196 so skiing, and some of the kids, activities can and will be done behind the 196 so some of the slow speed concerns about wakes that these boats put out now is a none issue.

Right now I am leaning towards a newer 210. We have a cabin on a smaller lake so rough water handling, is not an issue, if it is windy enough to have the lake too rough for our current 210 we would not be going out on the water with any boat most likely. Also storage is a none issue, as if we need to switch gear surfboards to wakeboards, more drinks etc... we will just stop by the dock and grab it, we never pack the boat up and spend all day, or even half a day in the boat without stopping at the dock. The other benefit of sticking with the 210 is my current lift would be sufficient, a 230 would be close, but a G21 would definitely need a bigger lift.

My main concern between the three would be the wake. I have read a lot, everything I have been able to find to read, and most seem to say that the newer 210 is about as good of a surf wave as you will find in a 21 foot boat, with 750's in the rear lockers and a little nose weight. I do not think the wakeboard wake has ever really been an issue for the 210 so I am not concerned with that being slightly smaller than a G21. The 230 sounds like it would have a slightly better surf wave, but the wakeboard wake is a little more finicky, which I'm sure can be dialed in rather easily. The G21 should have the best surf, and wakeboard wake of the three, but I do not know if the difference is enough for the extra cost of the boat, and upgrading the lift, since storage is not a big deal at all, the added price would be based solely on the wake. I know there is no right or wrong answer, and I would be happy with all three I'm sure, but at the same time if the G21 is that much of a better surf, and wakeboard wake I would spend the extra money now, because odds are I will have this boat for another 10 years or so, like my current 210. That would be the best thing about buying new as I would be able to demo all three for a day, and see first hand the differences. Honestly if it was not for surfing, I am content with the wakeboard wake of my current 210, and would probably not even be looking at upgrading now.

I came from a 2003 210 and upgraded to a 2014 210 for a lot of the same reasons. Most of my crew is still a wake boarding first group but as age catches up to us I see a little more surfing done. Not to mention I have young kids that I got surfing with me as well. I have 750s is the back and 500 in the bow. Surf wake is a good as most other boats I’ve been on(X2, Tomcat) As for the wakeboarding wake, I run everything almost full and it’ll boot ya. It’s a consistent great wake that I’ve come to love. I’m even happy with the ski wake. Fill the belly and go 32, and you can rip it pretty good. The G21 is tempting but i live on a small lake as well. No need for the storage or the size. I’m sure the wake is better but do I really need it when I’m happy with what i have...

Does storage matter to you? If so, G21 hands down. If not, 230.

I originally was looking primarily at 230's, but then read some say the surf wake on the 210 is almost as good, and the wakeboard wake was easier to dial in on the 210 as well. It seems most people with a 230 only surf with it. If anyone does wakeboard how is the wake to clean up?

If your keeping it long term I would suggest a G21. It is a better boat in all categories especially the wake and surf and you don't need any extra bags. I went from a 2006 210 to 2012 230 to 2018 G21. But if the price difference is too much of a sting I would go with a 210

I'm upgrading to a new G21 after owning my 2007 210 for ten years. The 210 was an awesome wakeboard boat, and a decent surf boat, but as I'm getting older and surfing more, I wanted a better surf boat. The beauty of the G21 is that you don't have to add additional ballast over stock to create a great surf wave. The wakeboard wake starts out big, and only gets bigger with ballast on the G21. I've surfed lots of G23s also, and while I'd love to own one, I felt the G21 is virtually the same wave for substantially less money. I typically don't run with a huge crew either. Even though you have your dock nearby to return to, I can tell you that filling up all the storage in a 210 with extra bags as I did for surfing is still a bummer. If you're going to invest in the boat for ten years, as I typically do also, I'd highly recommend going with a G. For the record, I've surfed the GS20 and 22 and while they are ok, they simply don't compare to the G. Hope this helps!

Went from an 05 210 to a NSS equipped 12 230. Primary use is wakeboarding, miss my 210 wake, 230 smokes it in EVERY other category. Upgraded to 1100's in the rear and plumbed in bow overflow, now everyone (except myself) just wants to surf. Doubling the numbers of annual hours on this boat from the 210. I'd say the first question should be how big is your crew, even being close to your dock the 230 feels way bigger.

How full can you get the 1100’s? Or did you remove the stock tanks?

I went from a 2004 210 to a 2016 G21. I looked at all of the same boats and the G was the best fit. Wakeboard wake is a big step up and the layout and storage makes a day on the water much nicer. I was always moving sacs around the boat and trying to find ways to stash gear on the 210. The surf wave is good with a little tuning. If you plan to keep the boat for a long time the G is the way to go. I like that it comes set up and you don't have to add any additional weight unless you want to.

Removed the hard tanks... There is a write up with photos somewhere... Think it was under the title of 230 wakesurf setup maybe?

Thanks for all replies. I put a deposit on a 2017 210 Promo Boat with a lot of options, that I feel like was good deal. Thanks to Jason @ Nautiques of Orlando for finding me another boat. It seemed like the biggest concerns of the 210 were space, and I have never felt out 02 is too small, and being able to keep my lift was a big plus. Attached are a few pics and the build sheets. Looking forward to Spring.

We just put our order in for a new 210 a couple months ago and will have it mid January. Everyone’s needs and situation is completely different and that’s why they make different models. For us personally, there is not a better fit than the 210. That does not mean there is not a better boat, just not a better fit. The 210 does everything as good or better than most anyone needs and is easy to tow and move around. This was one of my exact color choices so clearly I love the choice, congrats.
