Think there is one called a "rock tamer"...but this goes on back of truck to keep rocks from kicking up. I have seen something that attaches to tongue of trailer as well, but dont remember what it was called. I looked into it like 6 months ago since I tow, but was difficult to find anything currently sold. Everything I found was past tense and no longer made that I could find (that attaches to trailer to specifically protect the front of boat from dings on gelcoat

I don't blame you for wanting to take care of your boat but is this really a problem? I have towed exclusively for 27 years and have never noticed a rock chip and I'm the kind of guy that NEVER lets his boat even touch a dock! But then it has always been on well maintained roads too.

Years ago, my S10 Blazer had a issue with some tranny fluid leaking. The pan bolts would come loose after x amount of miles. I had a long towing trip. Just for safe sense of mind, I created one of those things that hang behind RVs when they tow a vehicle. I have no clue what it is called, but I cut a 2x2 piece of pine the width of the Blazer bumper. Then I stapled some thinly cut [width] of black all weather carpet strips to the 2x2. I hung it from the hitch frame and off I went. The wife thought it was ugly, but it served a purpose.

As for the Blazer, I thought I would burn up the engine or tranny with my towing up and down all the hills in Pennsylvania. Nope, the Blazer rotted away; trim, rockers, brake lines, door panels. It just wasn't worth repairing any longer.

One guy brought his truck to the shop for the brake job, backrack and some LED lights he order from 4Wheelonline for his truck. He got those rock tamer flaps to protect his boat and trailer, seems very effective for the rocky and muddy road going to their house.

I have some tiny rock chips on the bottom of my boat that I am sure are not from the water. I live in an area with unfinished shoulders all over the place and have a truck that is slightly lifted and with bigger tires. It seems there is always someone who spun their tires just off the side of the road and kicked up debris into the main roadway. I think the gel coal knicks appeared when I put on the bigger tires.

Rock Tamers are on my Christmas Wish list.

I think you are talking more about a clear-bra type material, which could be used also. Like this: http://www.invisiblemask.com/boatprotection.html

Rock Tamers are great. I've been using them for over 10 years now. They protect the trailer from rock chips as well.

I’d worry about that rubbing on the gel coat
