I've looked at the Surf Select App on the Garmin site. It does exactly the same things as the Pebble.

$50-$60 Pebble watch vs $750 Garmin both functioning the same in regard to surf select features

Gents, how far away from the boat would you estimate the Pebble works? Does is auto connect when you walk within range?

The transceiver is mounted on the bulkhead panel on the starboard side in the back of the boat. It's Bluetooth so you have to be within range. The Garmin is Bluetooth as well. Anyway, it seems like I have to be within 20 feet or so of the back of the boat for it to work.

And yes, it does automatically reconnect when you're back in range.

About 20 feet from the boat. As more distance you gain, as more disconnects you will have. Reconnecting can take from a few seconds to a few minutes.

The way they write their announcement is it's new with "surf select 3.0" If it's a hardware change, I'd be much more interested in what's being updated internally.

Me as well. Even those the Garmin has the same features as the Pebble watch in regard to Surf Select.
              • Will the new 3.0 module have a longer bluetooth range than the the 2.0 module?
              • Will the connective between the Garmin and 3.0 be more reliable than the Pebble and the 2.0 module?

I started out with the Pebble 2... doesn't work :| Went to the pebble time and Haven't really had connectivity issues... I probably am ~30 ft from the back of the boat when it disconnects.

It is a hardware change. The Surf Select 3.0 module goes in the back of the boat on the Starboard side.

The Pebble 2 has never worked. It was never on the list of supported watches for Surf Select.

Yep. There should be a little white sticker on the wires going to it listing the version number. There are 3 different ones:

1.2: Only on MY2016 boats with Surf Select installed from the factory.

                        2.0: MY2017-2019 boats

3.0: MY2020 boats. Supports the Garmin Fenix.

Is it as simple as replacing that box?

It was between 1.2 and 2.0. I do not yet know about 2.0 to 3.0. I have an inquiry in with my dealer and will update this thread as soon as I have more information.

                              OK, gang I have news!

                              - The Surf Select 3.0 module can be fitted on ANY 2016-2019 boat. It's already wired and the module can be installed easily.

                              - The LINC must be running the latest firmware. Most boats will require an update.

                              - The Surf Select 3.0 module is part number: 200169

                              - The Surf Select 3.0 module will run about $335 from your dealer.

THX for these news! So you will need $335 for the module and $750for the Fenix. I do not think that this is a valuable upgrade - especially as long there are still Pebble's to buy and the Fenix price is that high.
