That is my prediction, I have absolute no proof but the G is due for a hull makeover vs just another tweak. With that said, Nautique could tie a new watch supplier along with a hull redesign in their upcoming marketing campaign

I agree with you. If company reps do not say “No!” when asked about a new hull, that itself makes a statement.

          Guys,

There's another thread on rumors and predictions for 2020. I'd really like to keep this particular thread focused on the eventual replacement for the Pebble watch.

          Thanks!

I have an update for Android users here. There are actually 2 apps that will make it very simple.

1)download the newest pebble app called "pebble" for Android.

2)download the "Pebble-Rebble" app as well.

3)launch the "Pebble-Rebble" app and follow the instructions.

            4)Done

I'm not sure if this app exists on iphone but basically it just simplifies the process outlined by charlesml3

I've been working on this for several hours now. Someone on the Nautique Owners FB Page reached out and he's trying to get a Pebble Classic to work with his YM2016 boat. Here's the problem:

                - For a 2016, the Pebble has to run firmware 2.9.1. It cannot run 3.12.3 which works for MY2017 and MY2018 boats.

I can push the 2.9.1 firmware to the watch. It loads and comes up and then needs to talk to the phone. Fine. Bring up the app and it pairs.... but then I run into another problem. The 2.9.1 firmware doesn't work fully with the Pebble App on the phone. I can't get past the setup screen therefore, I cannot ;push the Surf Select app down to the watch.

So I can then go out to the Apple App Store and get the OLD VERSION of the Pebble app. This loads and pairs with the watch and then I run into the next problem:

                - The old version of the Pebble phone app is looking for Pebble servers. They don't exist anymore. They've been replaced with the Rebble servers but I can't figure out any way to get the app to "talk" to the Rebble servers instead. Without this, I cannot push the Surf Select app down to the watch.

I'm still looking at this and trying to figure out a way to persuade it to work. I'm not optimistic. Without access to Rebble from the OLD VERSION of the app, I'm just not seeing any way to push the Surf Select app to the watch.

If there are 2016 owners that REALLY want Surf Select with the Pebble watch, you'll have to contact you dealer and order PN 170155. This is the 2.0 version of the Surf Select circuit-board. It will work in 2016 boats and let you use firmware 3.12.3 on the Pebble watch.

                Hi Charles,

I don't suppose you had any luck after this did you? I'm buying a 2016 G21 this week & happen to have a Pebble watch sitting around that I'd love to use. The downgrade instructions on Nautique's site didn't work so I searched the forum for ideas.

My watch is running firmware version 3.12.3 and it has been upgraded to use the Rebble servers. After reading through this thread, it sounds like there's no way to downgrade it anymore. My only option is to get part number 170155. I tried to find that online but couldn't. I'll try my dealer when I get a chance.

Let me know if anybody's got this working. Or if anybody has an old Pebble with the correct version already installed they'd sell. I'll be a motivated buyer.

                Thanks!

                Todd

Nope. I have no solution for a 2016 outside of replacing the Surf Select module in the boat. I tried for hours to get a Pebble Classic to downgrade on the Rebble servers. No luck. Once the watch is running the old firmware, it won't access the Rebble servers anymore.

I never used the pebble watch on my 2016, and never really missed it. It seemed like something I would really geek out over, but in the end, I don't think it would really have improved my boating experience. The watch is too small to really use the buttons while moving, and you can't use it while wakeboarding, so I can just bark out commands to my driver if I need to. I used the surf select to switch sides quite a bit, and that was really cool, but not the pebble watch.

What I would do is use the boat a few times and see if you think you really need it. I think you may find it is mostly hype, and geeky cool, but not necessary to improve the boating experience.

And we have just the opposite experience. Everyone that surfs on my boat loves it so much that we once turned around and went back to the dock because I forgot it. The watch is nowhere near "too small to really use the buttons." That's just nonsense.

The best thing about it is being able to do small tweaks to the NSS, NCRS and speed while you're surfing. It lets you try different things. With the Pebble, you're more likely to try a different setting than you'd be barking at the driver. The flexibility makes it completely worth it. I wouldn't buy another boat without it. Then you also have control over the stereo volume and you can also advance tracks.

We do a LOT of teaching new surfers. If I'm on the back coaching, I'll keep the watch with me. That way I can watch the wake and make adjustments as needed to fit the skill level of the new rider.

If we're sitting out back floating, I can also use the Pebble then to adjust the stereo volume. It really does add a lot of value.

I use mine all the time as well. I never leave the dock without it. Charles if tchancey wanted to change out the 2016 surf select module for a 2.0 module what do they cost and are they on the Nautique Parts website or is a part you have to call in for pricing and availability?

I asked the parts manager at WLM last year and he said the module was $175. IDK if that's still the same. Replacement is simple plug-and-play. It isn't on Nautiqueparts. It would be a special order from the factory.

I used it all the time on my 2016 as well. In fact, its one thing I missed most when I sold it and got the 14 for a year.

Tallredrider I’m with you. I couldnt have cared less about the watch. I set them up, and had them in the boat every time...... but still just always used the Smurf button instead.

Being as im back in a MC now, I definitely miss having the smurf button. Luckily I got a couple great drivers, and the tabs switch really fast. I just have to let the driver know I will be going at some point soon, and they just watch for when I go for it, and hit the switch when I do. On older boats, you had to do the whole process with the countdown, and time it just right, and all that jazz. Still miss smurfy though.

My dealer has confirmed that 2020 model boats will function with a Garmin unit. The Pebble won't work on a 2020, and the Garmin won't work on a 2019.
