Picking up surfers and riders the right way

this is a good video that needs to be shared across all forums to help protect our sports. I know lots of people already know this but I have even seen a members on here buzz docks in a g series boats( as well as other brands) on our lake. Please watch and pick up your rider properly and give 100 -150 feet from shore when driving slow or pulling surfers and wakeboarders.

I'm on a lake filled with power turners. It just makes sense to do a slow turn. You protect the calm water, you don't annoy the people around you, and you don't have to worry about swamping from your own wake as you turn into it.

What lake do you go to?

But it's really a moot point for wakesurfing...wakesurf boats plow, throwing rollers forwards and sideways, screwing up the whole lake for everyone else no matter what.

I disagree. The forward rollers are nothing like the rollers that are the wake you surf on. They still mess up the lake for wakeboarders to some degree, but nothing like the actual surf wave. I think if the surfers drove properly, it would be much better.

My home lake is pretty small and with all of the power turners, there are times you cannot even surf consistently because of it. We could surf with twice as many boats on the water if they all knew how to drive.

Even when you get up early, there is some yahoo who thinks it is the best idea to make a circle all the way around the outside of the lake sending rollers throughout the entire lake.

With the latest wakesurf ships being produced there isn't much difference between a wakesurf boat wake and a cruiser. Power turns only add to the problem. Ignorant or just plain rude drivers are the norm here on Lanier . Its rare that I see a respectful knowledgeable driver. If you buy a wakesurf ship keep in mind it doesn't need the conditions found in a back water ski cove . Just entering under power throws a huge wake . Get some training and IF YOU WANT TO SURF DO IT IN THE MAIN CHANNEL .

What can you do? We have people that do that also. They just go around in circles making waves messing up other people water sports. They do this presumably NOT to purposely mess people up doing their watersport, but just because that is what they want to do. And I guess they have as much right to do so as anyone has a right to do what they want to do. There is no "higher art form" that gets "dibs" on the lake. Kind of a problem...

P.S. Everything creates rollers...but surfing is the watersport that creates the biggest rollers.

Great video. Will surely share on the local forums and pages once the season kicks in here.

With wake-surfing I agree with the above, it's not just how it's done but where and when. I have no problem talking to a crew that is wake-surfing before 9am on perfect glass while we're trying to ski and board before traffic picks up. Wait until later or go to the middle of the lake.

We were at our lake one morning and my father-in-law was also there with his boat messing up the water (power turns and pulling some grandkids on a tube). When my wife yelled at him, I knew I married the right woman.

Point of video was to educate people on how to do it correctly with least effect on others/environment...bravo! since too many ignorant jerkoffs on the water who don't know how to drive safely, much less properly. I always try to be conscious and respectful of others....live and let live, however most people neither think that way nor will any amount of education make them become any less selfish. Some will learn since they do it simply out of ignorance which is why videos like this are great. Most know and don't care.
That is an entirely different point tho. No one sport has more of a "right" to be there than any other, and regardless of my desire to please others and be selfless, if some skier or wakeboarder were to come to me at/before 9am telling me to "wait till later to surf" or "go somewhere else on the lake that is not so nice" cause he is the only person who has the right to be on the "perfect glass", I would LAUGH in his face. Those are just the facts, lakes are only so big and if I got up early to go surfing, I would not be packing up early and going home cause someone was mad that I decided to go to the lake on the same day they did and now they don't have perfect glass. If that was the case, I would never get to go out on the boat. ****, I have never even seen perfect glass except in pictures, guess I live in the wrong place.

Yes and no on this for me. Before I bought a wakeboard boat which now I only used to surf, I used to only ski on a slalom course behind a ski boat early in the mornings . On a lake of 550 miles of shoreline, if we ever saw a wakeboard boat surfing and/or wakeboarding on our glassy cove on our morning slalom sets we would stop our sets and go talk to the wakeboard driver and ask them to go somewhere else on the lake because this was the only cove we could ski the course. Most were generally understandable but some were not. As a defense mechanism sometimes we would line up and anchor the ski boats along the cove to keep the wakeboard boats out during slalom course sets.
Now that I'm the owner of a beast , I have always been respectful of my prior slalom buddies. Since I now only surf, I can sleep in on my mornings since surfing does not require smooth water like running the course. I know others will not agree with me but that is how I feel on this topic.
