How fast to clean up wake of 230

Hello, I am looking into buying a nautique 230 and I am a little worried about the speed needed to clean up the wake. Can anyone give insight? I would run stock ballast maybe a little more. It is an 08 that I am looking at

As always, the right answer is "it depends." I assume you mean for wakeboarding rather than wakesurfing. I find that will full factory ballast (including Pro Ballast option) and a full tank of gas, mine cleans up right around 21 or maybe a bit higher. It will clean up a bit slower if I move some people up front, but that also reduces the wake height. Note that I'm talking about a 2017 SANTE 230. It may very well be different for an 08. You should do a test drive to see on that boat.

You can clean up one side on almost any boat at a very slow speed. My advice is to get one side clean and have them work that side for a bit then clean up the other and have them work that side for a bit. We did this with our kids and they are now 6 and 8 and ride at 19-20 easily with confidence.

I am comfortable riding at 22mph-23mph will this boat clean up both sides at that speed with stock ballast and about four people?

Yep. You should be perfectly fine at that speed.

Thanks for this post. Looking for our first boat and kids are 10 and 8 and I am paranoid of making a mistake of getting a boat that can't go slow enough. Wife and I really like the 230 but I was afraid it would not fit our needs. Your advice is great and really makes me feel better the 230 would work just fine. Thanks.

Any 08-09 230 will need the zero off GPS antenna and software updated to the latest versions. Otherwise when zero off is engaged your boat will porpoise going down the lake with any weight over stock. Its really annoying. I had an '09 230 with 3200 lbs of ballast, ACME 1235 prop, ZR409 motor and the wake was great at 22.5 mph. Updating the zero off system worked wonders.

No problem, and don’t feel frustrated. Honestly any of today’s huge wave machines is going to be difficult to get a clean and manageable size wakeboard wake for kids. Just be patient and figure a work around like I described above and they will be riding comfortably at any speed very soon. Ours started at 4 and 6 and at 7 last year our daughter got 4th in her first competition that went to 14 years old.

We went with a 2004 sante 210. We will move up to the 230 in a couple of years (maybe....I love this boat). You can clean up the wake at 17.4 on the 210. It has been perfect for my 8 yr old. The wake is narrow, but it will boot his ***. We were going to go with a newer boat, but I found this one in mint condition. Feel free to email me at chris@stinsonphoto.com and can send you some videos.

I was the exact same way. My son put 50 hrs of ride time learning behind a Tritoon at 15 mph. Getting surface stuff and comfortable on the board. The wake is intimidating to some kiddos and others have no fear. I️ was not going to put him behind a boat that had to go 23 mph to clean up the wake.
