    Window Tint Recommendations

My new 2018 GS 22 is in and I am considering some degree of window tint. We use the boat a fair amount in the evening so I don't want to do too much tint.

I would appreciate any experience on what percentage tint people think is the right amount functionally on the boat. Really dark tint would look badass with my black hull, but using the boat so often at dusk I am a bit fearful to go with my dealer standard at 5%.

N3 Boat works does a much lighter 35% (GS24 attached).

My dealer says their standard is 5% (meaning only 5% of light allowed through). Pictures from dealer of a Moomba and Nautique G23 at 5%.

    Thanx for your opinions.

I have never seen tinted windows in a boat nor had a desire for them but just seeing how dark they really appear in your pictures, I think I would consider a much lighter shade especially since you do a lot of boating at dusk. Also I don't know if there is any state boating law in Arizona which may prohibit tinted windows. If you plan on towing your boat to other states, you may want to consider their state laws in regard to tinted windows in boats as well

My recommendation is going with the 35% the 5% will be tough to see in the evenings.

Get high quality tint, not the cheap ****. the cheap stuff causes an incredible amount of glare in the boat at night.

that being said, the windshield is really the only privacy you have on a boat. i recommend a quality ceramic to block the heat too. at least get a 100% UV blocking film, most come in 85%, which is more clear than the glass. this will give you outstanding heat rejection, which is a big deal on black boats. texas is in the same boat as arizona as far as sunlight goes

I have 20% on my boat and its hard to see out of, mostly cause of sun reflection, but looked great with my black hull. 35% may even be a little difficult to see out of at night, but I sit on bolster anyway so I like it dark.
I too tho will say to get a ceramic tint since it blocks a LOT more heat than normal tint and will help keep your dash looking good for longer.

People are seriously tinting their boat windshields for privacy? That's like tinting the windshield in a convertible so people don't recognize you.

I did it cause it looks badass with my black hull....and to help keep heat off dash area for some UV protection

I have had a boat with 5%, 20%, and 3 of them with 35%. I could not see out of any of them at night. (Well not good enough to feel comfortable with what I could see)

If you are going to tint the windows, I’d get comfortable with the fact that you’ll be bolstered up after dark. Because of that, I’d go with 20%. It’s quite a bit darker than 35, and you can still see in low light situations. 5% is a complete PITA on cloudy days, and also after the sun goes down.... even before it’s dark.

I actually just did the tint on my new boat yesterday. Went with a good metallic 20% on this one.

Tinted one boat 35% and will never do it again. Was great during the day . I was out one time after dark ..... if you plan on driving at night i highly do not recommend tinting

Previous owner tinted my windshield before I bought it. I thought it looked cool, soon after using it the first few time I couldn't remove it fast enough. Couldn't see well especially just before dusk and forget about opening the center window and flipping the window to the passenger side on hot days - you've now doubled the tint on the passenger side with next to zero visibility through that side. Maybe mine was cheap stuff, but my experience driving with it at dusk and doubled up was enough to say no way. My $0.02

I never look thru the windshield, so I like the tint. All depends on how you drive tho if its good for you or not, I am always on bolster as I much prefer the full visibility. I am on pretty busy lake tho with lots of idiots, so constantly watching for someone else to pull something dumb, since it happens frequently.
