    Eight.3 Wakeshaper vs suck gate

I've got a 2002 SAN that came with the Eight.3. I'm not keen on the Velcro set up but some of the videos out there make the wave look pretty impressive. Any thoughts from anyone? Roughly the same performance as a suck gate?

    Thanks

WakeWorld did a test between 5-6 different suck-gates and the mostly seemed to look the same, some slight differences. You can look up the text on WW. I have a Nauticurl and really like it, well built and very clean wave.

I’ve got the suck gate on mine and for the minimal surfing we do it’s sufficient

That's for the replies. We primarily surf and I have used a suck gate in the past. Just trying to decide if this thing is worth messing with or selling

I second the Nauticurl. Had suck gate on old boat and was okay. Bought Nauticurl and it made a huge difference over suck gate. Owners are great as well.

Ok, I am confused, Nauticurl is a suck gate, isn't it?

I’ve got a Wakesurf edge that did a great job til I installed go surf assist on my old boat. It’s really well constructed and floats, which is nice. No leash required. Happy to sell it to you if interested. Would save me the hassle of CL.

Yes, Nauticurl is a manufactured suck gate, made out of solid piece of lightweight metal...think aircraft aluminum. Guess he means the difference between a homemade one and the Nauticurl?

I guess I'm asking if the wave from this Velcro setup is worth it or can I get an equivalent wave from a homemade or nauticurl type suction cup setup. Thanks for the replies!

There is a guy with a Mastercraft with the Velcro wedge sure makes the boat ugly with the Velcro stripes attached to the sides. I make my own suckgates no damage to the boat and you cant tell they were ever there when they are off .

I'd say go with nauticurl or a homemade suck gate. Velcro strips on the side of the boat... Not good. It looks ugly and will wear out and leave residue on your hull.

Sorry for the confusion. By suckgate I meant one I made versus a professionally made one like Nauticurl. Not an engineer but hyrdodynamics or something is much better in Nauticurl since it made a big difference. Borrowed Mission Delta one from friend and it wasn't as good either.

Absolutely yes, the Nauticurl will do exactly the same thing....without sticking semi-permanent crap to the side of your boat
