    New Restomod Project Boat!

So my wife's father purchased this '89 Ski Nautique years ago for just $1500 and had plans to restore it. He dug into it and got the motor running nicely and then replaced the old wood stringers with some new fiberglassed stringers. That's about as far as he got before he put it up and never pulled it back out again. About a year ago, we all went in together and got him a 79 Mastercraft Stars and Stripes which was identical to his very first boat that he loved so much but couldn't ever find. The one we found was actually exactly 200#'s off of his original boats Hull ID/VIN! So once he got that boat, this Nautique took an even further back seat! Well he decided that some of the old boats around the farm needed to go and was going to sell this Nautique. I told him I would buy it from him, but he said if we just got it out of his shed, he would give it to us. So that became the birth of my new project! And a long/costly project this will be!! We pulled it out and took the old torn up tarp it was under off. A cat or two went scrambling out and God knows what else may have been living in there. We gave her a full rinse down trying to get all of the cat poop and urine smell out.....the smell however is going to take some more profound soap and scrubbing as well as some good ole sunny days to air out!! I originally planned to just restore this boat to its former glory, but then I remembered seeing the pics of N3's 88 Barefoot Nautique restomod and that quickly became my new obsession. Therefore, my plans now are to fully restore this boat to a NEW glory! We are shooting to make this boat a smaller version of my big G23! An old school look with some new school flare! But here is the beginning as I play to document this long journey!

Looks like a fun (and potentially long) project! Just fyi that when you are looking for parts, this appears to be a circa '86, not an '89 per your first post. I have an '89 myself so I know what those look like! Good luck and can't wait to see the pictures as you go!

You may indeed be correct! I was just told it was an 89...I personally felt like it was an older one but was going off what I was told. I will update this thread for sure as soon as the Title work is found!!! Thanks!

The year is just the last two of the VIN/HIN which as you may know, is stamped in the transom, starboard side, just below the rub rail.

Looks like a good starting point! Are the floors still solid? At least you are starting with that work done (hopefully). Can't wait to see the progress.

yeah I am going to check the HIN this evening when I get home from work. And the floors are solid as can be. The father in law replaced all of the stringers completely and sealed and fiberglassed the new ones. They can handle about anything you can throw at em! That saved me a ton of work!

What a fantastic interior. I see extra cup holders, speakers and some really cool mounting brackets. Give us a few more photos and details.

Agreed, that's an '85 or '86. Fun project! Keep the pics rolling in...

The N3Barefoot Restomod is one of the cleanest/nicest builds I have ever seen. Such a great idea to bring these older boats back to glory!

Look forward to viewing your progress. Once complete you will need to bring to the Wake the World event on SML so I can see in person.

I wish I had more pics!! These were taken off N3's facebook page. It's all they had! Those guys are top notch Nautique guys! I got to meet Mark and the boys up there years ago when I purchased a used XStar from them. I def plan on adding cup holders and a few other things. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the custom fold down seating that they have and I doubt my interior vinyl will be near as intricate as theirs....but we will see when that time comes.

Cool Project. Look forward to the Pictures of this underway.... I obtained a 83 ski, and trying to decide if I want a project or make a bar out of it, which is what I went to go get it for in the first place. From your pic. the Dash, strip pattern and vents on the hood, it should be a '86. HIN will be the definite answer.
