    Gs20

Looking at moving from a '14 X-30 to a ' 17 or '18 GS20. Mainly to have a boat that can fit in a standard garage.

I'm tired of paying $350 per month to store a boat 2 hours away.

    Anyone with GS20 experience?

Pros and cons to this model?

Anything besides the stereo head unit different between the years?

Capacity doesn't matter to us as we normally only have 4 to 6 people at a time in the boat.

    Thanks in advance.

We have the GS22 so I can comment on the 22' version. We love it. I have had many hours behind an x-30 and owned an x-star so I can give you some comparisons. You will be
surprised at how much room there is in the GS's. The layout is really nice and simple. No wasted space. The boat handles like a sportscar. Cant emphasize enough what a pleasure the boat is to drive. Very different in the most positive way. Getting up on plane is not even noticed and the NCRS and NSS are everything that they're supposed to be. No experience with folding tower other than doing it at the dealership prior to ordering ours. I have not lowered our tower. It does involve the bimini if you have one but I know the tower is on shocks and that make it a one man job. The tower is built very good and super sturdy. As is the bimini. Boatmate trailer is super high quality. Didnt give a whole lot of thought to the trailer prior to purchase but it was a pleasant surprise. Very well built and really nice features. Bimini is super nice. Its unconventional in appearance but is very funtional , works well. Looks really cool as it grows on you. Love the dash and joystick control at helm. Clean, simple, neat. Ergonomics and driver visiabilty are excellent. Some have problems with the windshield frame falling in line with vision but I have either become used to it or it doesnt hit me in line of sight. I'm 6'1" and never use the seat bolster.
There are some things that I wish the GS had. 1. Slide in air dam is a hassel. Wish it had a door that stayed there ready to be used instead of having to find the slide in door hidden away. 2. Bow seats on hinges, miss the bow seats that swing wide open on my x-star. 3. wish the surf pipe extended a few inches deeper as I think it could be quieter. I've had fresh air exhausts on other boats that were quieter. Larry at FAE knows of this and agrees its not far enough down. I'm sure Nautique has their reasons for this but I love quiet boats- no engine noise would be fine with me. Its not noisy just not as quiet as it could be. I hate to mention any negatives but really there arent any worth any concern. I love the GS22. Hope this helps.

Helps a lot. Thanks for taking the time.

You bring up a great point with collapsing the tower and the need to remove the Bimini. My wife has to have a Bimini but if it’s a hassle to remove that is a consideration.

I have owned two MasterCrafts and two Nautiques and one Centurion.

Things of all three brands could be used to build a Super Boat.

      Thanks again for your time!

Just thought I would comment on the bimini. We put our GS22 in a single car garage for the winter. We removed the bimini due to our severe height restriction on the garage (it was built in the 70s and was not very tall). You can lower the tower without removing the bimini and that is very straightforward. You just pull out the latches on the tower, unscrew the side knobs (they even have a place to put them) and ease it down. The bimini then goes over the windshield into the bow. However, we needed to have the top of the boat be right at windshield level, so we took it off. takes about 5 minutes. Three things to do -- unscrew the knobs on the side, pull the quick release pins on the back and unscrew the supports (the only thing you need a tool for). Probably could do it faster with practice. But, you still have to do it.

We love the boat! And would confirm both the positive and the first two negatives from Whitecaps. We actually think the boat is plenty quiet, but I won't disagree with Whitecaps' view since he has more experience. They may have kept it shorter so the wake is cleaner for slalom, but that is just an uneducated guess.

Scoma, that is great information on the Bimini. I think we should have room without complete removal. If not I can certainly deal with taking 5 minutes to have the boat in our garage and accessible.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
