Not that I'm in the same stratosphere as you guys but have Progressive on a 96 Super Sport. Its cheap, couple hundred I think for the year if paid in full. Full coverage with $500 deductible, which I had to use when a jet ski bumped me last year (I almost came unglued) and they handled it great. No complaints for me. No price increase this year. Maybe not the same for the $150k boats but that's my $0.02.

Tow boats have been proven to be one of the lowest claim items out there and why you can get a $150k boat insured for about the same cost as a $50k vehicle.
3 companies I have been with for boats...BOATUS, SkiSafe and Progressive (I would not use Progressive for anything but boaters, their vehicle/homeowners sucks IMO). I am with State Farm for everything else (little more expensive but you get what you pay for when it comes to homeowners/cars). Nationwide would be next choice for homeowners and I may be switching my cars/homes to them soon. I have seen good things from Liberty Mutual but not been with them before. Allstate sucks period (these are all my personal opinions based on how I see them treat their insured when their are claims.....mostly fire and water damage... and I see thousands of claims per year in my industry). It is interesting tho that the adjuster can make the difference, I have seen the same company treat the same situation differently with a different adjuster so its rarely cut and dried
Like others said, I shop every so often cause that is the only way you keep them honest...otherwise rates creep and as your car is worth less/depreciates....rates go up? So stupid. Insurance is the biggest scam out there IMO. But they wont let themselves lose money so when they pay out billions in claim cause of disasters, everyone pays for it one way or another. They keep people with "disappearing deductible" and other little tidbits that make you think its worth paying that extra hundred per year or whatever the case may be.
      Sorry.....rant over
ya, I didn't understand it at first. I thought it was a typo. I had to clarify. I have never heard of a % deductible. This is with Farmers, but I think the recreation division is underwritten by Foremost. I have my current boat insured with them and it is less than $300 a year with a $500 deductible

You guys interested in switching, but already paid yearly premium realize you can cancel and get your prorated refund for the premium right? I do as others have mentioned, you have to keep shopping yearly in my case for the home, autos, and boat to keep the best rates.

I have Boat US underwritten by Geico. I pay $491 a year for $37k in coverage on boat and 5k on trailer, 1% deductible, $3,000 in water service towing/$500 trailer, 500k liability, bodily, property and uninsured, 1mm total liability including fuel spills, recovery etc. Same price for 2 years running. The only thing I don't like is the value is shy of what it would cost me to replace the boat should it be a total loss. Maybe I should check out Progressive just to see. Does Progressive include offer on the water towing coverage?

I don't remember if Progressive offers that, they probably do have an option....but my SkiSafe policy includes up to $1k of either on the water towing or towing boat/trailer if it breaks down on the road....per occurrence (think that has a 250 ded). Don't remember if they said it was 2 or 3 times max annually of being able to use that. I have only had to be towed on water once, but it cost $700 so it sucked and I had just let me BOATUS towing policy expire like 40 days before that, lol. Live and learn

i pay $535 to ski safe for $70k on the boat and $5k on the trailer...including freeze coverage - in case i screw up the winterizing - and $500k liability.

Honestly based on what I paid for used g I am not worried about finding another one for cheap...But I am worried about wifey hitting someone when she drives me so I like the high liability number.

Thanks Scottb7 and Infinity, Looks like I'll be shopping progressive and ski safe this week. I'll keep you guys posted on how it compares to my Boat US. My 2006 is in such good condition plus a lot of after market stuff I would be 10k upside down if it was a total loss(most likely theft because I keep it on a trailer). That's the main beef I have with Boat US and I even lobbied hard for the value I have. BTW, I've always been told by my insurance guys it doesn't really matter what your liability number is, AS long as it's greater than your Net worth. Because when you hurt someone, no matter how bad, they will always sue for either the policy amount or your Net worth, whichever is higher. If you have a high net worth, it's cheaper and better to get an umbrella policy through your homeowners insurance.
