Nautique Awareness Camera.... Worth the extra $ ?

We have our next 210 lined up and the only option that it doesn't have is the Nautique Awareness Camera.

It seems like a great way for the driver to view when a wakesurfer is ready to go as well as making sure the area behind the boat is clear before backing up.. Anyone have this camera and use it? Is it worth the extra $450 ?

I have a G21 without it...but drove an 18' G23 with it this past weekend. Honestly...I spent more time looking in the mirror and the picture wasn't all that great in the late afternoon sun. I could live without it when I order my 23. Sometimes looking at the real object is better. It's great technology...but Just meh to me.

I love mine and use it all the time. To be honest with you I thought it was standard on the G but maybe not the 210. If not standard well worth $450 dollars

I use my mirror . Camera would be cool but I like looking upward or maybe it’s just common now

Yeah, I've been without a camera for 20 years so why start now? I just thought it may be a big help to the driver when teaching newbies since we seem to always have people blocking my vision of the rider in the water.

I think I'll pass on the camera. Thanks for the responses!

To each his own, but I think you will regret this decision. Like you I was without a camera for 20 years and now that I have it, I use it all the time. $450.00 for a boat option is chump change when you are getting ready to fork out +/- $90,000.00 for a new 210.

GMLIII, Do you use your camera for surfers or just for visual while people are hanging around the platform and behind the boat?

I don't use it for surfing . Once you reach a speed just above idle speed is cuts off ( dont know the speed at which is cuts off , just guessing it may cut off at 5 mph) . I use it for visuals on a surfer/boarder pick up, someone exiting or entering the stern , pull up of a surfer/boarder or just hanging out around the stern of the boat

I guess that's what I meant.... pulling up a surfer when he or she is ready viewing in the camera instead of using the mirror or looking over my shoulder. I do think it would be a nice feature to have but....

Like others here, I went for years without a camera, I also went for years without a backup camera on my truck, now it's imperative to have one so I can hook up a trailer solo. I use my awareness camera all the time when picking up riders and teaching others to surf. Mine doesn't cut off above idle speed, but at speed it is useless except when surfing. I looked at it as an option that couldn't be installed after the boat was built, to install it aftermarket would cost much more than $450.

Standard equipment on a G. Works at all speeds, although useless above above surf speed.
                        I like it....

The 210 comes with them wired regardless if its optioned or not, so adding later is not a huge expense. We did not get it on ours either. I also understand $450 extra on a boat this price is not a big deal, but if you have that mentality about every $500 they offer you will easily add $3-4K to the price of the boat. Keep in mind on the 210 the natural site lines are so much better and easier than the much taller and longer G boats.

Exactly what I was thinking. The G boats are tall barges and you often can't see a surfer if they are close to the boat. I would get the camera on a G boat, but probably pass if I had a 210.

I would get it if I had neck arthritis.
