    First Drone shots

Finally got some drone shots of my boat out on the water. It was fun to see this perspective.

Nice shots! What drone are you using?

Not to hijack but do any of you with drones run into issues with water patrol or park rangers not allowing drones? Know at the federal corps lake we go to they will stop you in your tracks if they see a drone being flown. I've actually looked it up on the federal site and it does list drones as being illegal at federal parks. Perhaps the rangers at our lake have nothing else better to do. Curios if anyone else has issues on their lakes

My friend said it's a DJI Mavic Pro. It's the first time I ever had a drone used from my boat. With that said, I've never heard of a rule/law stating that drones aren't allowed, at least on our State Park Lakes. Would be interesting to see if it is, then what's the reason for it?

Photos of ones similar to the perspective in you last posted photo are my absolute favorites . I simply love that perspective . Old mag shoots and wake videos used to get a few of those in there and always left me drooling.

Here is an article I found with a google search on drones at Federal parks: https://www.fs.fed.us/science-techno...esponsible-use

The actual FAA Written law is like 650 pages so I only read through part of it but it appears there is a grey area and state park rangers are taking the federal protected lands clause and using for their personal vendetta. I've seen them kick people off our lake for using drones is only reason I bring it up so you're aware it may/may not be legal on your lake. Guess it depends on how much time a ranger has to waste for something so subtle as running a drone.

Think the times people were told to stop using drones on our lake the rangers gave the reason of other citizens who weren't part of the taping and also the wildlife being in stress BS clause.

Thanks for the info! Will be on the look out for any issues we may run into with the Park Rangers in the future. Will also let my friend know since he's the one who owns the drone.

Absolutely love your boat! We own a 2001 SAN in black/white. I noticed you have a lot of ballast in the bow. How does this affect your wake for boarding and surfing? Wondering if I should consider it too.

Thanks Viper, really appreciated! We wakeboard 99.99% of the time. Haven't taken my wake surfer out in 2 seasons, but this is how I have my boat ballasted for wakeboarding. The stock hard tanks in the rear lockers were removed and I plumbed in 550lb Ronix tapered bags on each side. Then I have a 600lb belly sac plumbed in the ski locker under the walkway, and then I use a 450lb sumo sac in the bow with just a manual pump. If I have 3-5 riders, I'll also fill a 160lb Fly High brick sac that I keep on the floor in the cockpit and use it to move around to balance out the wake & act like an extra person. Some times in addition to that, I'll also use 240lb's of pop bags (6 bags of 40lbs of lead) on the floor of the cockpit as well. If it's 6 or more riders, I won't add lead or the brick sac because I don't need it. The guys I ride with ride anywhere from 23-24.5mph from 70-80ft. If they ride 70ft, speed is usually 23-23.5mph. If they ride 75-80ft, speed is 24-24.5mph. I ride at 90ft at 26.7mph. Wake is money at any of those set ups.

For surfing, I use a homemade suction gate on the slanted part of the stern because it makes the wave taller and beefer. If I use it on the flat side of the boat, it makes it longer but it's also not as high. I keep all the ballast in the rear and belly completed filled, but just empty the bow sac. Then depending on how many people I have in the cockpit, I will just shift people around to make the wave as big and clean as possible. It's amazing how well the suction gate works, especially for the older 210's since a long time ago, the port side wave was never good. But now, it's great!

I hope that helps you out, best of luck and let me know if you have any questions.

                      Ryan

Wow! That's impressive. Must be massive air and way out in the flats.

Thanks a ton for all the info! I have a Swell wake shaper. If you get a moment, could you post a pic of exactly where you put the suction gate? I put my wake shaper on the side of the boat near the rear so that it’s completely submerged. Seems to make a decent wave but I’m wondering if I could make it better.

If you’re choosing between drones with a built-in camera, you should definitely go with the Freefly Systems ALTA. With a 40-minutes flight time and a 4k camera, this is the best fit and surely enough for your first drone film.

I'm 45 and old school, haha! I've lost some tricks over the years but still try to take what I have as big as I can. And yes, would rather land in the flats then wake to wake. But on the old 210's, it's easier to ride long line and land in the flats.
