Nautique purchase outside of local area

So how are people able to purchase a new Nautique from a dealership outside their local area/state?

Try to work a deal with the local dealer first. See if they can swap the boat in. If that falls through, see if they have any sort of issue with servicing the boat after you buy it out of area. I'd just be upfront about it.

Are you looking out of area because of issues with your local dealer? Or is it that your dealer doesn't have the boat you want?

I have a buddy with this same issue right now. He is willing to drive anywhere to buy the boat he wants but doesn’t want to pay the extra 5% to buy out of territory. I think he told me that’s what they would charge him to buy out of area because they have to give 5% to local dealer. It’s not his fault the local dealer has a terrible selection.

I found a 50 hour 2009 230 about 1,200 miles from my home. I wanted old technology boat with gauges and found a good boat.

Worked out the deal based on condition, had an inexpensive survey done to confirm then flew to look at the boat. I had it hauled to my door for less than the cost of a round trip pickup with a DOT licensed and insured carrier. With frequent flyer miles and hotels it cost me a day of time, $300 survey, $35 car rental and $1200 dollars to ship to my house. The boat has been perfect and for the couple dollars over my expected hold period it was worth it. PM me if you need a carrier. This guys has shipped 2 boats for me.

I don't really understand the problem here. I live on Lake Gaston, but did not buy my 2017 SANTE 230 from the local dealer. I bought it from White Lake Marine because they've been "my dealer" for more than 20 years. I wasn't about to buy a boat from anyone else. Nobody mentioned any "5% upcharge."

The selling dealer is supposed to pay a fee to the dealer in your territory if you buy out of territory. Whether that cost gets passed along to you is up to the selling dealer. It used to be a flat $2,000 fee, but I think I heard that they raised it to $5,000.
I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

"My dealer" is Watercraft Sales in Three Lakes WI (excellent dealership btw) however I now live in Montana. Our MT dealer which is the only dealer in MT is 6 hours away and has limited inventory. I am not worried about service or warranty simply because we am so isolated. My concern is in regards to purchasing a new boat, Nautiques policy on out of region purchases, and possibly tax implications.

Just my opinion..... but at 6 hours away, I’d say you don’t have a local dealer. You are in nobody’s territory.

Watercraft Sales is our local dealer as well, and I don't blame you for wanting to give Ryan your business. Great dealership.

Dealers have defined territories. There are areas that do not fall in a territory. I think they call them gray areas. If you are in a gray area you can buy anywhere. I agree with Wayward, I bet you are outside a defined territory.

How does the dealer know what territory you fall in? Do they go off of drivers license, area boat will be registered, credit app or what?

Dealers usually go off zip code when it's registered. Some won't even give pricing if they know its out of territory for them. Others are willing to talk but will want to contact the local dealer to give them a chance to work with you or even transfer the boat to them type deal for you. Some dealers just don't care and will sell out of territory

When did Summit boats become a CC dealer? Just saw them with a dealer search. Assume Marine max LOTO was your dealer before them?

Lake Anna VA is a gray territory.

you have Chessie 3.5hrs to the north and they’re terrible. Even to the folks the sell boats to.

and you have Poplar Pointe 3.5hrs to the south. I’d rather sink my boat in the lake than take to them again.

I will throw another wrinkle in the discussion. I live in north Dallas but have a place on a lake in east Texas, 2 hours away. Neither are gray areas as both have a dealer.

Dallas is within Buxton's territory and my lake is Ski-N--Sports out of Tyler. I have been told "technically" I could purchase from either.
