Towing with wakeboards inside the boat?

I am planning to trailer my boat for an 8 hour trip. It's a 216 and I wanted to put my kids wakeboards on either side of the engine cover. The boards are a 37 and whatever the smallest size is for my 5 year old.

Will they blow out at 70mph or should I be ok? I have tower racks, but did not want to have them up there getting bug juice all over.

They will be fine. I've done it many times. I think it is safer to have them in the boat rather than up on the tower at 70 MPH.

Given the design of the boat, I can't imagine it being a problem....but I wouldnt do it.

At 70mph, the wind is moving fast enough to have some weird effects...hit a bump, catch just a little air and you have a flying projectile that could kill someone. At the very minimum slide them under the observer seat and/or in the trunk.

If I trailer without a cover on the interstate, everything loose in the boat is secured, trunk locked, bow cushion removed, engine cover locked down etc. Could be overkill...but it feels safer.

we have towed tons of times with the boards in the boat(w/ my 210 and my friends dd mastercraft) w/o any issues.

We have towed with boards, ski's, jackets etc in the boat for yrs and yrs-nevre once a problem, You would have to be extremely unlucky..

A board is way too heavy to fly out, I wouldnt' worry about it at all.

I have tower racks, but did not want to have them up there getting bug juice all over.

Please don't tow with the boards in the racks. I have heard several stories of people doing that and having the boards come out of the racks and hit other cars.

Definately do not put them in the racks. I had my board in a boardbag and laying in the boat. There was a bad cross wind. All of a sudden the driver pulls over and tells me my bad is in the middle of the road. The bag got dinged and there was a small scuff on the board.

So I was that guy running down the highway to get his stuff that blew out of his ride.

Tie them down some how. Had the driver not randomly checked the mirror, we would have arrived at the lake with me missing my board, top, and vest all sitting in my board bag.

Towing over a very windy pass last weekend I noticed one of my boards kind of floating up against the inside of the windshield... Do yourself a favor and put your dockline in the binding straps or through the bag handles and tie them to the waterski tow bar. Never know what you will encounter during an 8 hour tow, as patoloco suggests winds do weird things.
