We throw a couple 50 lb Lead Wakes in the back and in the front, mostly because there is usually only 3 or 4 people going, and surf the stock settings. Our wave is big and super rideable. We honestly don't mess with anything. This is why I am a little nervous about going to the 3081 with the 550 motor, surfing just works so well stock.
What we have noticed is that the wave is very dynamic. We run in deep water - usually around 300' give or take. We also run in lake canyons made by dammed rivers. No current on the surface, but I think what rolls underneath can have an effect. Between that, fuel consumption and some wind we find that the wave characteristics actually change a lot throughout the day. It's crazy how much a little wind seems to change the wave.
Call me crazy, but I somehow think boat traffic affects the wave as well, but not sure why. I can't put my finger on it, but some of our best waves have seemed to be when there is a ton of other people surfing in a tighter area. Could be a coincidence, or maybe those spots are just more conducive to better wave shapes, but it has happened more than once.
Wait, now I am overthinking it..... Seems like good waves are part boat set up, part science and part black magic. : )
I do appreciate the info, keep up the good work. Always interested in wave tuning advice. We are going to do a couple hundred pounds of offset this year on the port side. We have known about this trick for wakeboarding on the G's for some time, just been too lazy to go to the shop and heft some more bags into the boat.
Hey TheJean I cant help but notice the back starboard cushions are wet, are you still getting a bit of spray on that 17??
Try NSS at 0 and NCRS at 3..... That seems to be the sweet spot on the Gs ive been in.
I don't know anything about your surf water quality in Canada and I'm looking from the outside in but from the looks of Jean's pictures he was driving right into a strong head wind. I think regardless of what settings he had on the NSS and/or NCRS on that given day he would have gotten a spray no doubt.
