A Very Public and Ugly Divorce is Possible.

Read my story. I ordered my boat last March or so. i went to the factory to see it 3/4 done. Nautique failed to tell me they had destroyed my hull, as it was faulty. To their credit, they flew me out the following week to see my replacement boat. Take delivery at the end of last June. Boat is missing a port catalyst. Codes, of course. I have 31.8 sweet, loving, no stress hours on her, and today she overheats. Makes all kind of racket, and throws a code-posted below. I have built and re-built at least 5 engines. I’ve raced cars all through my life. I’m a 12+ year Cobalt owner. I know very well about impellers. My frigging boat isn’t one year old yet! Get ready, Nautique-this won’t be pretty. I’ve had it with this **** boat.

Not good RTD; hope you can work it out with your dealer and Nautique

Check the belt. See if the tensioner, or one of the other pulleys, failed.

Thanks, Gents. I want to be optimistic, but Nautique and I have a pretty nasty history. Sometimes, this happens. Nautique will just have to write me off as a bad set of issues. I am not tolerant @ a $185K sticker; I’m not. I don’t know what the future holds, but think that when I have voiced my vitriolic side, Nautique may well cry-“uncle”-bad deal, unfortunate circumstances-we lost that one...But of course. I’ll fade the financial burden, and chalk it up...

Of course many of us are curious - keep us posted. Like blueroom says check belt/tensioner. They did have some bad tensioners so it could have broken. https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...oken-tensioner

P.S. There is a reason that under my loveseat it looks like this. Former owner, after prop shaft broke carried this around with good reason. Figure with 2 batteries I will never be stranded. Too bad trolling motor not offered in "masters blue". Then it would match my boat.

Thank you for the response. I never ever yell or scream or do anything of the sort. That said, in a circumstance like this, given my history with the manufacturer, this won’t be pretty. Humans have their limits. I do, and when I’m done with them, I suppose Nautique personnel will as well. I have spent an inordinate amount of money to have this many issues; I have no clue what I’ll do of I get rid of this boat. I could go back to Cobalt, but can’t get a wave like this. Is this the price to pay for a wave? I never had a stitch of an issue with my Cobalt...ever.

Had same issue in mine .

Do me a favor and take the strainer off (if you have one ) mine got cracked during winterization . It won’t leak much but sucks air .

              Same code as yours .

I’m not sure if yours is same setup as mine . But I unscrewed it and it had a hair line crack in it . Problem solved in 30 minutes if so

Yeah, I think the frustrating thing with Nautique is that there is NO correlation between what you pay and reliability.

It doesn't sound like much can be said to help your situation, you are pretty clear that you've had it. If I read you right, you shouldn't have said 'possible' in your title, you're done.

I have seen similar stories on all of the boards I have frequented, MC, Malibu, Tige all have similar events. Although I will admit, forgetting to install the catalyst is a serious bonehead maneuver.

My advice is don't get bitter like Scottb and hang out here to just torment other Nautique owners. Reliving bad experiences over and over and over is not a recipe for a happy life.

Agreed. Right now you're mad and I get it. Tomorrow when you've settled down a bit get out there and do some troubleshooting. It could easily be something simple. Like the cracked strainer that Lucky described. Or maybe the strainer cup is just loose. I have no idea why, but they're NOT easy to get on without crossthreading. Or you could have sucked up a plastic bag. There are a lot of possibilities.

x2, all brands have some issues and sometimes buying new comes with some extra headaches to work out the kinks since we have laptops running our boats and being handmade adds human error to the mix. Never having a single issue with your Cobalt probably is not helping this situation, but that is rare and not the norm when it comes to boat ownership. Was this the first run of the season? If so, does make it more likely that it could have been something tied into the winterization process like mentioned above.
Getting towed is always frustrating, no matter the situation....worse if you have already experienced some issues like you have that should not have happened. Hope things work out and this ends up being something simple.

This wasn’t the first run of the season; we’ve been boating for a month or so. I’ve awakened madder than I was when I went to bed...

Doesn’t seem like there is anything that can be said to make the situation right, so no matter what Nautique does or says this is going to be ugly, mostly because the resolution probably will not be acceptable in the OP’s mind. We are on #4 with Nautique and only issue we had on any was a LINC screen that went bad and was replaced in a day under warranty.

I would just keep in mind no matter what brand of motor vehicle you buy, there is always going to be the possibility for issues. What makes good versus bad brands and dealers is how they recover from said issues. I will have a different approach to my response if I read this in a week and Nautique is not returning calls, not standing behind their product, etc.

It’s clear you are very angry at the situation, but before you completely lose your crap at least give them a chance to rectify the issue and make it right, just my opinion.
