    2018 Surf boat purchase

Hi all, I am hoping for some advice here that could be useful for the general public as well. I am looking for a 22-23ft (14-16 people) boat that will be mainly used for surfing. I've done a lot of research and what I've got it narrowed down (based on budget) to is:

    1. 2018 Super Air Nautique 230 (23ft)
    2. 2018 Malibu VLX (22ft)
    3. 2018 Supra SA (22ft)

Main goal is to produce a good surf wake and overall usability of the boat for storage, functionality, etc... I'm looking at the 230 very close but am a bit concerned that this boat has been around so long that big changes could come soon, and that the aftermarket demand may not be as high because the general public feels that it's (older). Also have heard that I will need to pack with extra ballast...

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. thanks

I wouldn’t worry about resale. The 230 is one of the most sought after boats on the used market. The 2018 should be very saleable in the future- new linc screen, auto hydrogate, all JL audio, etc etc

If Surf wave is important I would just go ahead and exclude the VLX.....

The 230 throws an incredible wave on both sides and its easy to setup.
The Supra will throw a great wave too, there boats in the last couple years have really stepped up and the autowake actually is genius.

No questions about build quality and fit and finish the Nautique will beat out any competitor in that regard. I wouldn't worry one bit about resale value the 230 has held its value as good if not better than any other boat ever.

I had a 230 and now have a G23 I said when I owned my 230 it was the best bang for buck boat out there and I still believe that today.....

Its going to lack in the storage department especially if your like me and add extra bags front and back.... but that's about the only downside.

Look at the SA , autowake is pretty slick and the power tower and power seat are pretty sweet as well as the surf locker. Parker Payne is rocking a a SA. You will also have a G23 sized wake for wakeboarding but clean down too 16.5 mph.

With 14-16 people you have all the ballast you will ever need.

Go with the 230. You will thank me later .

I surf mainly so can’t comment on the awesome g23 wakeboard wake. Surfwise I feel the extra $50k gets you more storage. If surfing and low level (no ballast and no crazy flips) wake boarding are your thing the 230 can’t be beat.

Have you demoed any of them? I didn’t give Supra the time of day until I demoed the SA and was blown Away. Huge wave.

I was between a G21, SA, and tige rzx2. Malibu wasn’t considered because I have an axis and am not happy with the local dealer or build quality. Tige went out for features and feel compared to cost. SA felt very big and roomy and had a ton of standard features (zone control audio, nav maps, heated seat, 2 ballast pumps per bag).

I ended up putting a deposit on an SA and then switching to an SL. Subfloor ballast and In floor cooler. 23.5’. With a trailer for a huge amount less than a G23.

I have ridden the SL with stock plus 600lbs of lead....7-8 people and the wave was excellent (about a month ago...I actually went out with the Wake 9 crew for an afternoon in NC). Nice long wave with great push and a great lip for popping airs. My favorite features that may boats do not have are, I like the redundant manual switches on the SL as well as the power tower.

Really you should take them all out on a demo and see what you like best. The Supra is a pretty nice boat, I switched after owning 6 Nautique’s in a row last one being a SAN 230. I know have a Supra SE450 ( 24’6 ) so a little bigger then the SA.

Ha! ha! I don't wakeboard anymore but a couple of weekends ago some friends came along and one guy really wanted to wakeboard behind my 230. Sheesh, it was crazy. That guy was throwing raleys, tantrums, 720s, and a bunch more I couldn't even name. The water was lousy and it didn't bother him one bit. He did every "crazy flip" there was.

Yeah, it seems for a good rider conditions are not as important.
