    Filling Up

I know I saw a post on here a few weeks ago about the gas pumps not shutting off the flow of fuel once full, causing fuel to spill all over the sides of the boat and shoot out of the vents. Well I either didn't pay any attention, or I was so distracted by the crackhead asking for spare change at the station, that I turned away for a brief moment only to look back and see a stream of gas erupting all over my boat, trailer, keys and wallet that were sitting on the fender well. Of course I have to shut it off and now I'm drenched in gas as well. Great way to end a decent day on the water, oh besides a friend of mine handing me a cooler of adult beverages and the cooler's handle breaking causing 4 glass bottles to shatter and explode all over the interior of my precious new boat. NO GLASS AT THE LAKE!!!!! So I spent all day Sunday doing an extreme detailing of my baby to get her back to new status....The broken glass is gone, hopefully never to return, so I guess the question for the day is how to prevent gas from spilling out of the spout and vents, or do you guys not fill up completely to prevent that? Oh and since it seems like no one has had any experience with a product called Liquid Glass Polish. IT IS AWESOME!!! Especially on darker hulls. You can put this on paint, gel coat, metal, aluminum, everything. The longer you leave it on, the better b/c it allows the polish to cure, and the more coats you apply, the better as well. I wax my boat about every month or so b/c of the black hull, and it was amazing to see the difference. Yes, it is a bit expensive $22 a can, but well worth it if you're wondering...thanks for the gas advice in advance....

    RE: Filling Up

When I fill up...it takes my full attention. I also turn the ignition on so that I can watch the fuel gauge. Very slow flow also....just a patients thing.

Same here. I actually listen carefully to the sound of the flow. When I hear it changing I change to manual/slow.

I also keep en eye on the guage as I fill up, and just stop it after its been on the FULL line for about 4 long seconds or so... basically just not topping it off...

I still think CC should redesign the whole thing. To top it off (pun intended), my ramlin trailer guides are exactly where the fill opening is. I tried the suggestion of opening both gas caps but that only prevented the gas from spilling out of the overfill, not where I was filling up.

SKIDIM sells a valve that goes on the vent line that allows air but not liquid to pass. I had one on my mastercraft and it worked great. As far as the filler neck, maybe try to stick the nozzle farther into the neck or just go slow. The valve from SKIDIM works great though

I stuff paper towels all around the nozzle before I stick it in the Gas fill. Never fails that when the nozzle clicks off theres a backwash, but the paper towels get it, and no spill on the boat.

I think I'm going for the vent trap to prevent spillage while travelling also. I've tried every angle on the nozzle and it does take some concentration to not overfill. Dont the boat guys talk to the car guys? They figured it out!

It sounds like a lot of trouble to do all of that just to put some gas in the boat. I think from now on I'll just stick to not filling it up all the way and watch the guage as it gets closer...geez, a $60K toy and you'd think they could figure out a way to prevent this from happening...oh well. Thank guys...and girls if it applies.

I have a new in the box vent trape (purchased from skidim) that I never installed. I will sell it for 75 cents on the dollar if anyone wants it.

all you have to do is put a loop in the vent hose, now for the gas coming out of the fill tube thats just operator error.

I think they should go back in time and did what they did 24 years ago. My uncle's '82 2001 never overflows... That had it at one point, and now they've lost it... :???:
