    Another 230 Surf Setup Thread

I’ve ready a few threads on this, but there’s so many variables I feel I should be more specific. We have 1 board, hyperlite broadcast, 4’10”. I’m 6’2” 210, so I start feeling like the board is too small to go without the rope. For ballast we run full factory with 750s full in the lockers, though one sprung a leak and flooded the bilge Saturday. We’ve run from 9.5 to 12 and all speeds in between. I’m able to let go of the rope, but have to stay within 5’ of the swim deck and constantly pump to stay with it. My wife can get farther back, but it’s still a struggle to not wash out. We also use a suction wakeshaper for now until I catch up with previous discretionary spending. I’m planning on adding the 600 sack to the bow, but other than that I don’t know what to do. I’m trying to avoid sacks on the floor cuz we’re already out of room. Where am I going wrong?

Get a faster board. For us heavier guys the board is so much more important than it is for smaller guys and women. This summer I finally got a board that works for me and it’s amazing. Now I can just stand there and ride like all the smaller people I have watched for years behind our various boats.

It’s expensive to try the wrong board and there’s so many options. What’s a good board for 210-220 pounds?

I went with the Sweet Spot Pro and still had trouble. This year I got the Ronix Carbon Skimmer and it’s a blast. Don’t be completely fooled by the skimmer label, it rides pretty good as a surf style board as well.

I'm riding a 2018 Ronix Fish, 5'0", very buoyant, lots of push.

I'm 6'1" 215 and have no problem shredding on a Ronix 4'11" Koal Technora Powertial board. That's on a 06 210 with a suckgate. Is your suck gate as far aft and down as it can go? Bow bag will really help extend the wave ride area. Have you ordered a bow bag yet? Consider the new Ronix 1 1/2" port bag as it fills incredibly fast. Are you running factory + 750 or just 750 bags? If you have more room consider the 1,100 lb Ronix Plug n Play bags.

750s plus factory for a total of 2600 I think. Ordered a bow sack today, so we’ll see this weekend. I do put the suck gate as far back and low as possible. I’m hoping that between this and the right board we’ll have it figured out.

Maybe a silly thought, but are there dealers that will bring a variety of boards to the lake with you to demo and find the right one? Would be worth a little extra money instead of spending 4-700 on a board that won’t work.

Most dealers now days will let you out say $100 down and “demo” a board. As long as you buy that board or any board from them the $100 will be applied to the purchase. Don’t buy a board and you lose the deposit.

Definitely add the bow sac. I would put a slight lean on the boat too. I always keep the Surf side around 250lb heavier it will make a huge difference. That's with NSS too so with your suck gate you might want to try even more of a list.

Im not a big rider but my bro is and that broadcast is a terrible board. The inland surfer sweet spot or Mucus work really well for larger riders, the Ronix Koal Fish tail is also a kick *** board for beginners and progression.

A faster board would make a huge difference. I am 6'0/205 and started with a Happy Pill two years ago. I quickly went to a Phase 5/ 58" Model X. It makes up for a lot of my surfing sins. For example if I get out too far or fall too far back it has the speed to catch up quickly. love it.

demo is the only way to fly.

I'm using a Soulcraft Voodo 4'6" and also a rode a JS Pro in 4'8". I'm 6 and 205 but I have my custom NSS setup so I just fill the boat all the way.
I have 1100 each rear locker and around 1000 up front.
I'm riding starboard so definitely less push than port side because of propeller.

Tried out adding weight to the front with a V-sack from WakeMAKERS. Water was brutal rough but I had to go since we are off the lake until mid July. Whitecaps everywhere. Even though, the wake is much longer with more push. I was able to run easily without the rope, though not too far back. I also left the rear sacks only 2/3 full since it was so rough and we often took water over the bow. Probably wouldn’t have mattered, but I felt better. My kids were having trouble putting on the brakes to keep from running into the boat, so that’s also a good sign. Keep in mind, this is our first summer with a boat and only past experience was on a tube with friends. Giving away our tube to family btw. Hate that thing. All in all I’m optimistic that with the right boards we’re going to be pretty happy with our surf setup.
