Congrats on your order! You’re going to love it. Unfortunately the broken prop shaft issue seems to be pretty common. It happened to me on my 17 G23, but not yet after 30 hours on my 18 G23. Out of 5 2017 G23s I know personally on our lake, 3 had the broken prop shaft including mine.

For me, I just subscribe to Towboat US and hope it doesn’t happen again, but it won’t be the end of the world if it does. You might get to take the “tow of shame” if it does.

Yea, I don't think there is any way to know if/when it will happen again since it obviously not an issue they have figured out yet. Still a badass boat and I would not let that stop me from buying it since there are so many other pro's to Nautique G...just do something like stated above and make sure you have tow coverage, its not that expensive to have BOATUS coverage (under $100 if I remember right). I have SkiSafe Insurance and they also include $1000 re-imbursement for towing which covers the boat if: Something were to happen on the lake and you need a tow, OR also covers trailer/boat if something were to happen on the lake. You use whomever you need to, to get towed and then submit the receipts for re-imbursement to SkiSafe. At moment I actually have both, BOATUS coverage plus SkiSafe (since I switched my boat insurance this Spring)...but likely will drop BOATUS coverage now that I have SkiSafe.
Don't know if you have looked into SkiSafe insurance on previous boats, I would check it out if I were you....in my research it seemed to be one of the better insurance companies specific to boats....with the added perk of better price. Includes "agreed/stated value" on boat and trailer (separately) and this agreed value is good for at least for the first 3yrs I believe (then maybe I will go somewhere else for a season and then come back to them cause I don't want ANYONE to have the power to undervalue my boat in the case of total loss). Their entire policy is not extremely long including all the fine print so pretty easy to know exactly what coverage you have, I am OCD about reading all the fine print and some insurance companies have so much of it, impossible to translate some of it into actual English, which can potentially give them an "out" on paying on a claim down the road.

      Congrats on new boat!!

As a percentage I would say the number of broken shafts is very small although it gets a lot of attention. I have a 2015 G23 with 320 hours and never had an issue that left me stranded on the lake.

Enjoy the new ride and make sure you have towing insurance for peace of mind.

Besides that....any number of potential issues could leave you stranded besides a broken shaft and it could happen with any manufacture, these are custom, hand built boats. I have also been lucky to never get stranded due to mechanical issue, but it COULD happen for any number of reasons....these laptops running everything on our boats worry me more than anything, lol. Regardless, $10 month for towing insurance and peace of mind is well worth it whether boat is brand new, or 20yrs old.

Agree. I got stranded in first voyage on my new 210. It was a wiring issue . One of the pins wasn’t pushed all the way in on the harness

I think you will get back to your houseboat or marina a lot quicker with the help of some good Samaritan than you will with any legitimate towing company. That is based on my experience at Lake Powell, but I have been lucky to not have to get towed home while there, so maybe they come more quickly than I would guess. Based on my experience with every other kind of service in Page Arizona, I doubt a quick rescue is in the cards.

I personally have towed others home while there (I believe in Karma).

I have not heard locally of many prop shafts breaking, so the fellow who has 3/5 in his neighborhood is a definite outlier, but still scares me some too. I have 305 hours on my 2016 with no prop shaft breaking...yet. And 110 hours on my 2015 without a shaft failure.

Is there an aftermarket shaft one can buy to head this one off at the pass?
