I struggled to ride my G at first too until I got used to it. Same is true for nearly everyone who does ride it. Then once they get used to it they love it. You need to carve up and down more as opposed to riding the edge of the board as with it being such a steep wave, it can have a really ‘greasy’ feel to it. But I also found that by doing 50% ballast in rears and 70% front, and 0/0 that I can get it to mimic my old LSV wave, which is good for kids and beginners.

That is helpful. I would love to see a lot more.
I find it very strange that for a boat that boasts the best wave in the industry it is so difficult to find pictures of that wave. I've searched through this forum and a picture of a G wave seems extremely rare. Everyone takes pictures of their boat. OK you have a pretty boat. Now let's see what it can do!

Here's another look at the Malibu. I like it tall, steep and long!

I feel your desire for pics, but think they are not very useful. Different angles, different colored water, lighting all make waves look better or worse. I would never test drive based on pictures, and especially would not buy based on that.

The testimonials of legions of G23 owners who feel their surf wave is top notch means a lot more than great or poor pics of the wave.

You certainly are entitled to your opinion. My concern originated with a demo with a very experienced dealer who also thought he had a top notch wave. I left feeling dissatisfied and unimpressed. Just as photos do not always portray an accurate representation, so too your opinion of a great wave may vary widely from mine. It is rather subjective. So I would be glad to see some more visuals.

Thejean, thanks for trying but that link didn't work for me.

If the demo failed to impress you (I tried four boats before making my final selection) then you have have done your homework on that make/model. (Of course the folks selling that boat will claim they have the best).

A picture is only good for showing color combos of boats or how amazing the water you boat on looks...or most important how much fun you are having.

Go demo more boats and let that be your guide.

                Enjoy!

You might get a more usable wave with an LSV as the curl doesn’t usually start until later in the wave. Meaning, a large forgiving sweet spot but it’s just big, flat and boring if you ask me. The G wave has a bit of that plus a really nice lip for playing on. And the push is unreal.

FWIW, I even tested a 2018 23 LSV that I could have gotten for $30k less than a 2017 G23 and I still went with the G and have absolutely and unequivocally ZERO regrets. If you want I can try to dig up pics and video of the LSV wave and you can compare to the pics of my G wave. PM me your cell number and I’ll see what I can find.

There’s a reason it’s been the voted best surf boat 4 or 5 years in a row. The Centurions and others are definitely in the ballpark but they all seem to have compromises whereas with the G there are none.

And don’t even get me started on Malibu’s quality in recent years...

Go find an owner with a G on your local lake. Or ask around here and get yourself a real demo, not a dealer demo. 75% of people don't know how to dial in a surf wave, if your hardcore about that perfect wave it just takes the right amount of weight and settings to your liking. Yes the G is finicky but dialed is very nice, possibly the best, but that's gonna boil down to personal preference, id say it is a more pro wave maybe not as beginner friendly as others, a lot of my friends prefer my previous boats (230) wave.. The G will put out a better wave than your 23lsv, I can tell you this first hand as ive owned your boat. Lets be honest I know and so do you that your goofy wave is far better than your regular wave on that Bu.

Yes I won't deny the goofy side is better. And that's my side.

HEY! Are there any G owners in Seattle reading this? I'll buy the gas. And the beer.

Here's a video, terrible camera angle to catch the true size of the wave, but if you pay attention the wave really follows you back the further away from the boat you go. This is just my bro driving (210lb) and my wife sitting behind him (110lb) all stock full, 550lb in each rear corner, 300lb lead in bow and 100lb of lead under port side observer seat .

Came from 23 LSV completely loaded and dialed, switched to a 2017 G23, added 500 lbs of lead and it’s no contest. Even with stock, it was great and such less hassle than now bag etc on the LSV.

I’m in Seattle area so let me know how I can help. In my view a demo should have been more clear that the G is great out of the box vs the LSV and the lead then seals it.

Surfnjosh, thanks for the video. Your wave looks pretty good.

Skipdawg, that's what I expected too. The dealer was a good rider and knew the boat well. He had 400 lbs of lead which we moved around, plus one passenger.
Anyway, if you do Lake Washingtub at all I'd love to meet up with you.
