    Speed for Kid Skiers

Got my son up skiing today and he's obsessed. Trying to narrow in on the right speed once he's up. Any suggestions? I have a 21014 210.

    How big is he?

13 year old is 80ish and I pull her about 18.

10 year old is 45ish wet and she is up as soon as I hit it. Run her around 12.

How long are the skis? If they are a junior combo in the 54-63 inch range, you can probably go 4mph. If they are little trainers, probably 10mph. The key is to watch the skis to see that they are planed out nicely (reduces drag) but the kid isn't hanging on for dear life (too fast). The child should look comfortable and gliding.

You should also consider line lengths.

I start kiddos out at 32-off. It makes the line a little more manageable for them, they get more of an upward pull on their starts and they are inside the rooster tail (at least on my boat) at their speeds.

There really isn't any one answer to this. You want to go fast enough so the skis aren't wallowing, but not so fast that you're scaring him. The latter is the problem I see most often. The driver slams the boat up to speed and scares the skier into dropping the handle. Keep it slow until he's really comfortable and then gradually increase the speed.
