    GS20 wakesurfing fuel consumption

    Hello,

Does anyone know how much fuel you spend per hour wakesurfing full ballasts and 5 people crew?
It seems that my gs consumes approximately 30 litres petrol for one hour surfing on the ZR4 engine.
Is that normal or too much?

    Thank you

It really depends on the boat, now much ballast, the prop and rpm you are running on boat, AND the surf system you use. I have the ZR409 in my 24ft boat, (basically same engine)...surfing with 5k lbs of ballast and 4 people @ 3300rpm with Nauticurl suck gate. I am averaging 5GPH running non-ethenol fuel. (so roughly 19 litres per hour).
Also...the more bow weight I add, the further down my rpm goes and since I have plenty of weight at rear it does not knock down the height too badly and lengthens my wave nicely.

What rpm are you running at surf speed? Burn goes up quite a bit as your rpm creeps up. Running the conversion, sounds like you are burning roughly 8 gallons per hour and honestly, that is a fairly average number with these surf boats. I am guessing you could bring that down tho by adding some bow weight and perhaps looking at the prop you are running.
I mentioned the type of surf system.....cause saw someone post on an Axis boat the other day, with wedge and surf gate, was burning 15GPH, which is about 57 litres per hour!! But you are sticking a large tab out the side of the boat causing side drag AND dropping the wedge, which basically acts like an anchor. Anyway, that is not a terrible number at all IMO.

With stock ballasts 250 lbs on the bow and 4 people in the boat @11.2 mph it runs @3100
I don't use any other surf system apart from the NSS.

I track my GS20 gph every fill up. I range from 3.9gph to 5.3gph dependent on how much riding (i.e. Surfing) we do and the number of people. I recently changed props and am now probably in the 3.9 to 4.4gph range.

Sounds like you naught have the heaviest GS out there. Can you post some pics with your surf wave? Is is safe with 5k ballast? Risk of swamping?

What prop have you got on now? Yeah I would say 20liters per hour while surfing is the minimum for mine. What revs are you surfing at and @ which speed?

I do not have a GS, was giving Lilet a comparison, since my boat has same engine, so thot it may be useful info since short of running at 4k rpm, 8GPH is high IMO (for that boat/engine combo)...sounds like the GPH I posted using my engine, also lines up pretty close with the GPH that cbeitel123 posted for his GS20, so seems off that Lilet would get 8GPH, especially at 3100rpm.
