    2001 SAN Surf Setup

Hey guys, long time lurker, first post. Trying to get my 2001 SAN surfing and have a few questions. I yanked the hard tanks and have been running 2 750's and a bow sac with a Swell shaper. I have been the only one surfing and have been unable to this point to drop the rope. Last time I had over 1,000 pound of people moving around to try and find a sweet spot but just not quite dialed. Wondering if I'm going too fast, initially started around 10 but thought it might be too slow so tried a couple tics faster but no luck, what am I missing? Do I have to list it? Have been running pretty even weight apart from moving big bodies. I have a phase 5 Hypsta cause I'm pretty big guy at about 215 lbs. Thanks a bunch guys, here's a pic for fun but I'll see if a buddy has one of the surf wake.

I'm have the same hull (99 Super Sport). I've 750's in the rear, 580 in the ski locker and a nauticurl wakeshaper. I can easily surf with that set up from 10.5-11 mph. The wave is more amazing with 2 people up front and 3-4 in the back. I usually use a bow sac half filled if no one is in the bow. I'm 190 lbs by the way.

Great pic! I also have a 99 Super Sport and I am using a homemade suck gate. I mainly wakeboard but when I surf I fill my rear 750s, 500ish in the belly locker and probably another 400 under the bow. I then usually list a little bit to the surf side with passenger weight. Where are you placing your wakeshaper? My suck gate is fixed at 90 degrees but I put it on the leading edge of the taper so that reduces the angle to probably 70% or so. Not sure that last sentence makes sense. Near the stern of the boat where it tapers in toward the platform, I place the front edge of my gate right where the taper begins. I also try to line it up that it is slightly above or even with the water line. Set it too low and you lose some of the wave. Playing around with your shaper might help things. Also, the sweet spot of the wave on this boat is pretty close to the platform unfortunately. You can certainly surf ropeless but it's hard to recover from way back.

I've found a small list will really help. Add 300-400 on surf side. Also I don't have an integrated bow sac and my nose is way up in the air. I think if you can keep the boat off plane the better the wave.

        I run
        2x750 rear
        1x300locker
        1x350 surf side mid ship
        100 pounds weight nose
        50 pounds weight surf side
shaper on back of hull as far back as you can go

We also run another 500+ on floor sometimes and the wake just gets bigger!

Thanks guys! I've played with the shaper a bit but I was going deeper and further toward the bow so I will adjust and move closer to the platform. I've been a skier and wake boarder but not many of my buddies are big water sports guys so trying to expand into something easier on the body! Now it's just trying to get them up and surfing/ wakeboarding

You’ll need belly and bow weight. Remember 70/30 or 60/40 split from stern to bow. Stern weight gives you wave height and some push and belly/bow weight will elongate and shape your wave. Moving on to the wave shaper, you’ll want to place it on the angled area near the stern. The easiest way to get the proper shaper water height placement is to fill the ballast first, then place your shaper 2-3” under the water. Next will be playing with your speed. Depending on how many passengers I have on the boat, I like to stay around 10.5-11MPH.

My current surf setup is 98’ SS.
Rear - 910’s (I fill them as full as they’ll get) on each side of the motor.
            Belly - 580
Bow - roughly 400 (small sac and lead.)
            Homemade wave shaper

This set up produces a clean wave with a nice curl for regular and goofy footed surfers. I can surf about 7’-8’ back from the swim deck. I hope this helps!

Similar issues dialing in the surf wave on my 2000

              Set up is:

              650 sacs in rear 2x

750 bow sac (doesn't get quite full, 4-500 est.)

              Ski locker 225 sac

              Ronix blade wake shaper

              Usually try 9.5-10.5mph

Wake shaper placed as far back as it can go, with the rear of it at the beginning of the angle, at or just above the water line, angled slightly forward 15 or so degrees, which makes it about 90 degrees with bow up while at speed

Had 9 people (1,600lbs est) on the boat the other day, tried moving them around to no avail.

Does water depth have an impact?

              More belly (ski locker) weight?

I went with the small 225 sac, to retain some storage there.

Wave doesn't seem consistent, have only felt push, really close to the swim deck

Only a few times have we gotten the wave to curl
